And she has been with me almost as long as my wife.

Water damage to the CCM from water leaking under the floor boards has me thinking it's time to say goodbye to my GLS 2001 B5.5 Passat. A true black beauty she has 127,000 miles on her, gave me enjoyment more than any other car, and has been a great car in her 8 years in our house. She's at the shop getting fixed just good enough to trade her in.

This may be her last week in the garage. THank you Passatworld for helping with timing belts, oil changes, Raxles, and fluids. THere are countless times this site has saved me $$$.

THinking about a V6 AWD Ford Fusion 2010.

think about this....
ford bought jaguar.
and instead of working hard to make a solid luxury vehicle for their company
and make a good name for themselves. they made one of the worst cars ever.
the jaguars ford made have nothing but trasmission/gearbox/electrical problems, and
have parts designed to the point where you cant replace one part. they are several items combined as one piece.
ive seen my cousin blow 3x more than what he paid for his car just to keep it on the road.
finally he slapped himself silly and sold the piece of shit.

i believe he had to replace the whole transmission twice in 80k miles.

on the other note, my uncle had a explorer that the clutch failed prematurely along with his pedal, and almost caused him serious injury.
he had to crash-stop his car.
i think hes still feuding with ford over this.

best of luck, Chris. hope you like the Fusion. Ford's been putting out some pretty decent cars over the last several years, mostly due to Alan Mulally taking over as CEO.

The Fusion sheet metal was designed by the former head of the team that designed the B5 and B5.5 Passat, as I understand it.

They're easier and cheaper to fix. I like them, actually. My family, including me, have owned nothing but Ford for over 30 years and not a single trans, axle, brake, or electrical failure from any of them. All of them were subjected to at least 100k miles each. I think the only real issue was a starter on a 94 ranger needed replacing at 220K.

Who was comparing?

i just couldnt see myself ever buying anything american after owning both an audi and volkswagen.
not saying my vw never gave me problems...but they have all been relatively easy to fix and ive had no engine or trans issues with em.
and so far ive been able to repair everything myself or with family help.

ive driven in plenty of newer american cars, like the new dodge ram, the new charger, the new magnum, and i thought they were all garbage compared to my 10 year old german car.

you must have got lucky and got some gems from ford. because all the ones my family has owned were failures.
and thats after well maintaining them.
we never miss an oil change or maintenance on any of our rides.

who knows maybe they are finally stepping their game up.

the only reason ford didnt go bankrupt is because they have contracts
with just about every police department in america.

how's that shoe leather tasting? once again, you don't know what you are talking about.

To continue the argument, the new fords just haven't had a chance to break yet.

The one ford my family has owned had huge trans problems since the day we bought it in 05. Lincoln Aviator. The dealer "attempted" to fix it 4 times, no dice. We just had to live with it and at 80k that thing was popping problems up like groundhogs in the spring. Everything about it was cheap as shit, and nothing worked right or at all from seat heaters to the DVD player to the CD changer jamming up constantly. Hunk of shit.

My mom just sold it to carscam for $6k and bought a 2011 Lexus IS350 AWD. Nice ass car, fun too with 306hp. I do have some complaints about the way some things were engineered, things that VW and German cars all got right back in the 90's. There's just that difference from German engineering and other engineering... I've been driving my moms brand new Lexus all week waiting for my car to get fixed, and it's a great car, but there's still a lot about my Passat I miss. Can't wait to have her back tomorrow. My $0.03. :p

I'm still part of Passatworld, in a kinder gentler way. Too bad I can't get my gear rating to read "Rejected Mod"

You mean the CCM doesn't need water to run? Crap, I'm doing it wrong...
I have read 3 threads on peoples CCM's going bad on here in 2 weeks so I'm thinking it's a B5.5 thing and not a B5. Water as directed by your model year.

you still cant compare a ford to a VW/AUDI.
....never..... lol
So after 2 weeks I'll compare the two for you.

The Lincoln in quieter on the road.
The Passat had more pickup and go (I miss a turbo).

However I can't compare the Passat because it's 10 years older. The Passat has less bells and whistles. Plus it's a V6 AWD Ford vs a FWD 1.8T. Most of the mods I did to my Passat came standard on the Lincoln. For example I did the ambient lights on the interior of the passat but Ford has ambient lights in the doors and well as all foot wells that change color at the push of a button. My antenna on the Lincoln is smaller than a stubby. Both have HID's (passat was added). The navigation system is newer than my Garmin and it has voice controls with Sync that make it possible to drive and call, change the radio/CD, text message. check weather, check nearest gas stations, food, and enter a destination in the Navigation unit.

THE ONLY THING THE LINCOLN DOESN'T HAVE IS A COAM.

Overall I enjoyed both vehicles but the Ford platform has less mods to the car compared to the VW (body kits, venders like you can find on here, and the classic GTG's with members on here).

If you haven't checked out a new car since you got your Passat (I haven't bought a car in 6 years), you'll be surprised at what has been advanced in the interior of other cars. I have heated AND air conditioned seats for front and back. There are air scarfs in the front seats to keep warm if you want to drive with the windows and sun roof open in the winter.

Watch your timing belts. :p

I'll chime in on the Ford as well. We've had several Fords in the last decade and they have had no issues at all. Sure, they aren't as refined as a Euro but they are making strides in that department.

Regarding Ford's ownership of Jag - the media seem to indicate that they improved the quality, especially when it came to electric gremlins.

Bee5, nah. It's because Ford has a loyal following. But their efforts from the mid to late-90's through 2003 were...well...let's say I wouldn't touch one with a very long pole, except for maybe their 'homologated' cars like the Mustang and Crown Victoria. But it's forced them to clean up their act more quickly and thoroughly than the other domestics. As for the 'newer' cars you've driven. 'Dodge', 'Dodge' and...'Dodge'! That says it all right there. As much as they've remade their image and have Fiat behind them, they'll have to come out with quite the car before I'll seriously consider buying one.

As for Jaguar, I'm sure Ford tried to leave as much as they could 'local' to retain the feel of the car. They just couldn't deal with the Brits, who would rather quit and live off their welfare systems than be forced to really put effort into their work...
