So at what point would I hear a "whoosh" sound?

I have a 03 5mt passat, I rarely take my car above 4k rpm, (it just feels like i will break something if i do, i.e restricted). So i always hear that you should hear a rush of air or a "whoosh" sound on deceleration. I do not get that. I do get a electrical 'whine' type noise on spool up that goes away after 3k rpms but i never hear the "whoosh" sound on decel. Do i need to take it past 4k rpm's to hear it?

lol @ the cartoon.

I'm pretty decently well versed with the 1.8T passat and I know BOV's arent good for our cars (I actually have a new DV coming in today). What I am new to is the Turbo (how it sounds, what it's supposed to sound like under high rpms, vacuum leaks that effect the turbo...it's my first turbo car as I used to run with JDM such as S2000 N/A's and big V8's). My car is very high mileage with 180k and from judging by the hoses and clamps, everything is still stock (All hose clamps still have the factory one-time use clamps on them) and i have no clue if what happens in my car is normal or if there a issue such as vacuum leaks or anything since, i dont know what it's supposed to sound like or do. if that makes sense..?

I do not have a boost gauge set up yet, but i do feel a very light kick after the turbo makes that whine type noise.

No "whoosh" on regular old deceleration (car in gear, in motion, foot off gas pedal). It will sound like any NA car.

If you installed a BOV, it would make a "whoosh" when the throttle snaps shut, like during a shift, when you are in boost/accelerating.
