oh i know scott, i miss my v6s so much, if only it was stick, though...

and there's really no way to check the tb besides giving it an alignment, and that work fine. btw, it's a brand new, like 2month old tb in there nw. even tried putting to old one on for shits and giggles.

just for my own info, what led to to think it was the tb?

i don't know how these 1.8's are setup but there used to be a heater plate for the cold start to warm up the gas as part of a cold start, i would check that too if the car has it.
i say that because there are only a few things left.
when the car starts you cant hold idle and it wont run for long, correct?
there are too many posts for me to re read.

i'm at an end as well, check the TPS and accelerator sensor like we talked about, I said ECU but it doesnt make sense if it runs, the ECU should be fine if its starting a dead ECU will only crank no fire at all trust me my died. have you tried opening the ECU cover and making sure the connections are on good and didnt get dislogged?

i've been through the Bentley a few times and cant think of anything that you havent tried, it might be time to call in some help. now V4Vannorunningpassatidriveageo call in the troops and get it fixed before you melt down, or my offer still stands i'll swing through and take it off your hands for free ;)

just got home with the ecu, opened it up, and yea, even the chip looks like it's on there gootentoight. and you know that shitty programming i have? it's GIAC

i think i'll be giving quattrohaus a call tommorow

i was sitting here thinking, how are all of your grounds?
got a volt meter?check what the battery is doing, off and while running.
that's not a bad idea. it IS a northeastern 01' afterall... it's NOT obscure to believe rust took a serious affect. how does the negative cable look? how about the end where it bolts up to the main ground? (wherever the other end of the neg battery cable leads).
any other odd symptoms?

Guys, I ran across this thread researching a similar issue with my b5 audi a4.

Not sure if it's applicable here, but my problem turned out to be the water temperature sensor. Didn't see it mentioned anywhere else so thought i would throw it out there.

I tried starting again, it cranks fine and will start, but always dies in less than 1 second. tried starting then revving, I could hold the engine at any rpm, but it would die as soon as the gas pedal was released, and was smoking like crazy (white smoke). I also noticed it would shake pretty badly anything under 4k rpm.
good looking out though.

Mike ...whats the deal???
get that V6 up..if you don't have it done by Highpoint, i aint going:p

so yea, i still can't figure it out....

i'm going to start tearing up the wire harness one plug at a time, i think i might have a short or a f'ed up wire somewhere near the TB. but for some reason, i'm still getting that damn p1296. but the coolant temp reads perfect on vagcom, what gives?

no i'm talking about the CTS, which i know you have replaced many times but i guess the joke is gone now.

By any chance have you run a full scan on the car?
