Start with basic info- 2001 B5 AUG 1.8tm gt3076r
catless, mafless, and now startless :thumbdown
Drove to work fine to other day in the rain, had zero problems. car sat for ~8 hours, went to start it up to let it warm before driving home and it started slow then proceeded to die immediately.
I tried starting again, it cranks fine and will start, but always dies in less than 1 second. tried starting then revving, I could hold the engine at any rpm, but it would die as soon as the gas pedal was released, and was smoking like crazy (white smoke). I also noticed it would shake pretty badly anything under 4k rpm.
Brought in the vag-com next day. To eliminate confusion, i'm only going to give you guys the codes i deemed important. There were codes for too rich, too lean, random mult. misfires, and maf signal too low but i'm not worried about those because they're a result of the big ass turbo, tuning, and having the maf disconnected for over a year.
Now the important ones- cyl 1 misfire cyl 3 misfire and i *think* knock sensor signal (not sure if i remember that one, forgot to write em down)
visually checked plugs, all of em look good. threw some new coil packs on 1 and 3 (i carry spares at all times) same thing. visually inspected plugs, all look good, but 1 and 3 are a bit wet (to be expected if they're not firing), oh and that white smoke is also to be expected if 2 cyl's aren't firing.
Basically, i'm stumped. what would cause a misfire on 2 cyl's and then cause the engine to stall? I've had the car running on 2 cyl's before. it would be rough, but wouldn't stall, so i'm pretty sure there's something else going on here :banghead:
TIA, Mike
