I wish you more luck with the "search first" policy than anyone has ever had since The September That Never Ended. :)

Chris: From what I've read, there's a lot of "maybes" involved in folding read seats in Passat sedans. Apparently on 4Motion cars, there's no pass-through for structural reasons. Possibly also on VR6 cars, though that may just be 4Motion VR6es.

There's a latch on the top of the seat back for folding down the seats, which probably doesn't help you if you're trying to get in from the trunk. IIRC the rear deck is not very solid, it might be possible to cut through the carpet-like material and reach the seat latches, but if there's metal under the carpet in the trunk between the trunk and passenger compartment, folding the seats won't help you.

I would search the forums for "trunk pass-through" and "folding rear seats" to find more.
