Thanks! I like it too, but I may end up raising her back to stock too avoid any unnecessary snowplowing.

Three pedals or only two? :driving:
Just 2 unfortunately. The day after I bought it, I found a 2004 W8 MT. I was slightly crushed, but it was about $3K out of my price range.

What luck finding that at a dealer. Any idea what the suspension setup is?
I'm not exactly sure... I'm new to this VW thing. I've been bouncing around in a '93 Jeep Wrangler for the past 16 years so I've got some learning to do when it comes to more street-worthy vehicles. H&R springs, no idea how far it's been dropped. I get some tire rub now & then if the road is bumpy.

In other news, it's telling me in code that it may need a new Torque Converter. With ~100K miles on it, I'm guessing it's true, from what I've been reading.

I'd love to find out if it is a former member's ride. It would be nice to know how well it was treated...

Forgive my ignorance, but being a noob to the VW/Passat clan, what's this variant stuff I'm reading about?

Anywho, I've gotten 2 estimates for the TC, one from a dealer, the other from an indie VW specialist. Both were around $3K. The dealer was well over, the indie shop just under.

I've got a 60 day warranty on it from the dealer, but I want to make sure it's done right. Obviously he's going to want to take care of it however is easiest on his bank account, but I'm finicky about my autos and I'm guessing the W8 is a finicky beast to begin with.

I dropped it off today for the dealer to look at... not sure exactly how to approach it. He has a mechanic, but with something as "exotic"(?) as a W8, I don't want just anybody digging around in there. Guess I'll call him tomorrow, see what he has to say, and discuss options from there.

the engine has to come out for basically anything on that car.
if they are gonna pull it to do the TC get whatever else done at the same time
get a really good warranty for it!!
variant means wagon

Ha!! I looked at that car last week too! I loved it, and it appeared to be in outstanding shape! I was really torn between that one and a sedan W8 that was over in Kennewick. I ended up with neither. :(

Congrats!!

it was around $500-700 difference. i can't remember exactly, but the dealer estimate may not have included replacing all of the trans fluid/filters, the indie shop quote did. both said they could do it without pulling the engine, and both were intending to swap in a new, not reman'd, TC.

it may not even matter: tuesday, i dropped it off at the dealer i bought it from. it's being worked on now, the 60-day warranty covers about everything. and that costs me $0.
