1. I hate HID lights. I absolutely hate them. Everybody puts those painful blue bulbs in them and they blind me when I'm on the road. But, if I'm going to replace my headlamps, I want to get the brightest lights I can. Assuming I go with the Hella OEM HIDs, what choices do I have with the bulbs I can buy? I want something 6000k or less, preferably 5000k or less. No, I don't care if you think I'm a loser, I just want to know if there are any non-blue HID bulbs available for the Hella OEM lamps.

2. If I get these HIDs, I'll lose my foglamps. But I want to keep my foglamps, so I'll eventually get the Hella Micro DE bumper-mount kit. Can I get yellow bulbs for these? As it happens, I don't like white fogs either. Fog is already white -- it doesn't need white lights to make matters worse.

I seem to recall a bit on Daniel Stern's website about the fact that blue light is essential for percieving color balance (which is why people like being behind a pair of HIDs) but it's useless for actually seeing anything. Furthermore, some people need blue light to feel comfortable, and some people experience pain from bright blue light, and the two preferences have nothing to do with each other. I'm blessed with both disliking yellow light and being blinded by blue light. (you can guess how much I love night driving!) Correct color balance is therefore critical to me. For example, I only buy those bluish-tinted lightbulbs for my house, to counteract the natural yellow of tungsten-argon light. So much better than the normal bulbs. All I need to do is find the perfect HID bulb and I might be able to stand using them.

ycharlies: All I know is that I see a lot of cars around here (mostly japanese, but some BMWs) that have headlights that are incredibly focused, very blue (at least when I'm looking at them, I have no idea what the color is when the light reflects off other objects), and are painful to look at.

Can you give me brands and bulb specs for your setup? They look more or less like what I want. How did you fit the HID foglights in? Did you have to get special housings? Are those housings similar to the Hella Micro DEs that some B5ers have installed on their cars?
