Updates from today.

did the smoke test, no leak.

noticed the car was idling fine when I squeezed that hose marked in green (look at picture below)

Also is there some kind of valve in that part highlighted in red? Does anyone have etka can lookup the part#?

It's called a bleeder valve. Sorry, don't have the part no.

It is a type of one-way valve. It should allow air movement out of the hose (toward the manifold) you have marked in green, but not in the other direction, though even the new ones allow "small" leakage in the reverse direction. Should be easy to test with everything exposed like in your pic.

I couldn't tell from the pic. Does your bleeder valve have a tee in it? It so, there is another one-way valve in the line off the tee you will want to check as well.

I took that picture when the manifold was removed last week, everything is put back together now.

I hooked up the smoke machine to that hose marked in green. didn't notice any smoke coming out from anywhere other except from the engine when i opened the oil cap and oil dipstick, also from the airbox

air mass on vag showing higher than regular but ran within the limit at idle when I squeezed that hose marked in green.

Could it be the bleeder valve you mentioned?

The bleeder/one-way valve(s) are supposed to prevent flow in that direction, so one of them has failed.

What year is your car? I think cars 03 and later had the tee in the bleeder valve, so make sure you have the right part.

Fixing this probably wont help w/ your CEL, but will help with oil leaks.

do you know how many bleeder valve in there?

Well, there is only one bleeder valve, but if that bleeder valve has a tee off the side of it (like my 03 vin 50000+/-), then the part no. is 06B 103 245, not the one in the pic you found.

The tee-line runs up to a nipple in the back of the valve cover and there is a check valve in the line near the top, part no. 06A 133 528 A. This part failed on mine, but did not cause a CEL. It is all black and has a larger tube dia. than the gray/black check valves found elsewhere in the car. If you ask a VW dealer for this part they will want to sell you the whole assembly w/ hoses as part no. 06B 103 217 R (expensive). I had to go to an Audi dealer to get just the valve (still not cheap, but better than the whole assembly)

Updates from this morning.

I was moving the hoses leading to a check valve (06A 133 528 A) to get more room for my screwdriver and that thing broke at one end. Dealer told me there is a new revised valve, same part number but with letter D instead of A. Here's the new part number 06A 133 528 D

Looks like I won't be needing the bleeder valve anymore (06B 103 245). It looks empty in the inside, no springy or moving parts so I cleaned it up with some WD40. I also cleaned up all the hoses. I put it in order anyway just in case. I haven't checked the housing. Hopefully I'll get the replacement parts tomorrow and manifold will come off again. Can't get access to the bleeder housing without removing it.

August 14, 2010 Updates

Replaced Check Valve (06A 133 528 D/A) today, car is still idling rough, flashing CEL but it's solid/no CEL when the car is moving.

What I have done so far:
1. Replaced Turbo Inlet Pipe (Cracked at one corner)
2. Replaced D.V. (Original was fine)
4. Did Smoke Test, No Vacuum Leak
3. Replace Check Valve (06A 133 528 D/A) Above The Intake Manifold
4. Cleaned Throttle Body and All Pipes under Intake Manifold

Codes keep reappearing:
17705 - Pressure Drop between Turbo and Throttle Valve (check D.V.!)
P1297 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded
And All Cylinders Misfire

Car idles fine when I squeeze this hose marked in green:

Any idea what to look next?
