Hi all

Wondered if anyone can help me out, I think the cable that releases the front bonnet lock has snapped or come loose in the engine bay. I have spoken to VW in the uk, but after lots of oohs and ahhs and tutting they eventually said is was almost impossible to do - except they had done it a couple times tho and needed to have my car up on a ramp for X amount of hours. I don't really want to spend ÂŁ50 an hour for them to try so am thinking there must be a way that "mister diy at home" can sort it out???

TIA

Ben

Thanks for all the help, I know I could've searched the forums for the answer, but got kinda paniky and not able to think straight. If someone can PM me a link or just PM me and i'll send my email address to ya, the vids and extra pics would be a god send...

I've been on club b5 for a while and knew you guys would have the answer someplace - this club rocks

Thanks all again...

and tutting, the noise that plumbers/electricians/mechanics/any tradesman makes when pricing up for a job, usually combined with sighing and them usually thinking about which cruise they'll be on next week with your money... :poke:

From this, I will infer that I don't need to send him the vids. Let me know if I do. Thanks, Matt!
:p Beat'cha to it!

liquidozone- I didn't send you all the pictures I originally sent Rusty, because some of the pictures he took were better. If you need any other angles, etc., just let me know.

Thanks all of ya for the help :D

Second drilling did the trick and it's all opened up now - was a kink in the cable that was stopping it. VW garage wants ÂŁ110 ($180-$200 I think) to replace it for me, although that does include a new catch too... Another diy job me thinks :icon_eek:

Definitely DIY the cable change, it's not hard. You shouldn't need a new catch. Cable is like $20. There's two sections of it, with a shock-absorbing spring mechanism in the middle. Be sure to get the right section of cable.
