Caught by the speed camera on I-95 northbound several miles out of Baltimore tunnel last Friday.

It was late night of Friday. I think I drove over 20 mph in 55mph zone, when I noticed a camera flashed from behind.

Anyone has the similar experience? What kind of things should I expect?

Thanks.

a nice ticket and no points since you are out of state, I think. They can't prove who was sdriving, so they just hit you with a fine.

You can't get out of them. I had one for 12 over for $75 or so about 7 yrs ago in town.....Yours might be about $100 or so. That'll teach you to slow down, eh? :poke:

Dunno. I only know of 2 tunnels. I895 and I95. Baltimore tunnel and Harbor tunnel

Either way, speeding thru a tunnel whether during rush hour or midnight is dangerous. This isn't top gear. Oh, and both tunnels curve, albeit slightly. they're only a mile long....

Safety....it's still a revenue generator, no matter how they spin it. But, 20 MPH over in a tunnel may not be the smartest thing in the event an accident occurs ahead; there's no way around it. Even if you stop in time, do you trust the person behind you to do the same? I wouldn't speed too much in a tunnel, but those cameras are horrible things.

The 'right to confront your accuser' seems to have less and less bearing on things these days. It's become a money-making venture, and they'll openly admit it. Safety has nothing to do with it. Here in NS, Canada they passed the 'camera laws' underneath a bill for street racing that had major public support. It specifically states you can do NOTHING to your plate that prevents the camera from capturing it's image, and that you automatically waive ALL and ANY right to a court trial to contest the ticket...

Welcome to North Amerikka.

Last couple of people I talked to recount having to travel to the other end of the state, at a specific time during working hours, to contest it - NOT in the courthouse of the local jurisdiction.
they do this so u cant contest it..... absolutely not worth the wasted time and funds.... the ammount saved not paying the ticket is the same ammount x2 going through the gas tank....

This is just another example of how society treats the masses as sheep, and we, the sheep, put up with it.

It is unconstitutional that the owner of a vehicle be held responsible for an infraction caused by their vehicle, rather than the driver of the vehicle being held responsible. This equates to someone being held responsible for a robbery or even murder because they are the owner of the firearm used to commit the crime.

By paying a photo radar ticket, no matter how small, you are contributing to how society continues and will continue to slowly strip you of your rights.

Fight these tickets! They are not proving that you are breaking the law.

Thankfully, I live in a province (British Columbia) where this ridiculous method of enforcing a law was indeed found to be unconsitutional and was eventually overturned.

Received the letter with 3 color pictures today. One of the pictures is the zoom-in plate image.

Vehicle Speed: 72 mph
Posted Speed: 55 mph
Amount Due: $40.00

Fine payment will not result in points on the driving record and can not be used to increase your insurance rates.

So, I will just pay the fine - to make it simple.

I think the point here is, you can't prove who was driving-if you're car was stolen or you lent it to someone and it was caught speeding with a camera and you ended up paying the fine, how is that just? This is just the bending of laws so the states can generate more revenue-I honestly think safety took a back seat to money after the economy took a hit.
But this is why I love living in PA-NO front plates.:D

I'm all for them. It will make people slow down in those areas at least.....after they get dinged a few times.

You can get out of the ticket if your car was stolen. You also need to make an agreement with whoever you lend your car to that they will pay any fines they incur.

I've seen the exact spot where Huang got caught. It's a mobile unit. All the gear is mounted to the front of a Dodge Nitro. It's parked on the other side of the Jersey curb. Keep in mind that this is a very large construction area. It's there to primarily cut down on speed thru there.

Right.

The letter does give you a change to plead not guilty, as follows:

If the vehicle/tag was stolen, you need to provide a copy of the police report detailing tat that vehicle/tag was stolen.

If you were not driving the vehicle at the time of the violation, you can provide a sworn statement that you were not operating the vehicle and include any other corroborating evidence.

I think this is very fair.

That is it. Regularly, I hit a lot of traffic around 7:00pm. It was around 11:00pm when I was caught.

The point is not whether you are given a chance to plead not guilty. Its when you are given the chance. Can you honestly contest an infraction that occurred up to a month or so earlier? Will you know for sure if you had lent your car to someone at that particular time on that particular day? Will you know for sure that you were or were not speeding on that particular day? Perhaps their camera was set off by another car such as in the above examples. Try fighting that a month later. Good luck. That is what makes this unconstitutional.

So the lack of points or insurance rate increase supports the claim that is entirely a money making venture. Safety is not the issue here.

exactly. Enough tickets for speeding an eventually their wallets hurt enough to straighten up and fly right.
