Monroe is actually the OE supplier for several of VAG applications.
B6 Audi A4's come with sachs in front, and monroe in back. Odd.

While they aren't particular durable, if you're considering lowering springs, go with Koni shocks. They're much more durable and offer an awesome product.

The Monroes are not available for the Passat. There is a part number, but they
are on factory back order. In other words, they have not made any. They will be
too soft for the Passat unless you like the stock floaty ride.
They are more expensive than the Konis, listing at over $100 each.

If you are looking for a good replacement for the OEM shocks, go with BilStein HD's You don't have to replace your stock springs or do anything out of the ordinary. They are just a good quality replacement shock and you can usually get a set of four for about $400-$425. This seems high, but give the dealer a call and find out what the VW replacements cost.... Plus, Bilstein has a lifetime replacement warranty to the original owner. Keep your receipts.

Good luck,

Bilsteins are nice and firm, and they have a lifetime warranty. Monroes are fine if you're satisfied with the kind of ride people are looking for when they buy their shocks at Sears, but if true they cost $100 more than Konis, there's absolutely no reason to pay more for the soft, mass-market product.

Thanks for the info, yeah they would be from sears :puke: and the only reason is because of the cheaper install for buying a product they sell and the guarantee they can provide when they install it, as opposed to a third party installing Konis which I want. Just seeing if they would be worth it. I'll most likely end up with the Konis from S_klass. Are they only adjustable when you first put them on, or can you just adjust them when they are already installed? Thanks

hey guys, I own a parts company and sell monroe shocks (as well as other brands).....I agree that they will not be "sporty" like the koni or bilsein shocks that are favored here ...BUT... to answer the question, monroe makes great shocks, better than oem in most cases, they are the biggest shock company out there.. They may not be TUNED to your personal liking but I cant say a bad thing about them. And yes there are lots of relabled monroes out there. If you are replacing stock and want a stock to slightly better ride/handling monroe would be great. If you are lowered or looking for a big change go koni/bilstein.

For the record I have the eibach/bil because I wanted a sports car station wagon :D

The only set of Monroe I ever used were 'lifetime guaranteed'. They lasted a year before I had new ones. Another year and I bought Bilsteins because the hassle was not worth it. That was in an A2 Jetta. I'm not judging the company per se but my experience proved to me that their product sucks for the money. That's just me though.
