Tired turbo with chattering waste gate temp fixed with this mod... http://www.passatworld.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2524817
Been getting a reoccurring Cat Efficiency Below Threshold code. (no other codes)
Lately chasing boost leaks and just temp fixing them as I'm about to get a whole pile of goodies installed.
The last couple of days boost has been down, performance has been down and I'm hearing a loud PSSSSssssssss anytime I get into the throttle. I figure I've sprung yet another boost leak. Earlier today I checked codes and measuring block Group-32. I expected to see codes for a/f ratios being out of bounds and Group-32 readings for massive corrections, but no. Just the usual Cat efficiency code. After work I break out the boost leak tester and find that for the most part, it's holding pressure. At 10 psi I only have some small hissing and it takes a while for the system pressure to bleed out. No where near enough leaking to effect my performance to the extent it's been effected. And I don't hear the loud PSSSSssssssss noise with the system pressurized. Weird.
Another thing I know of that makes this sort of noise is a restricted exhaust. But I have the Techtonics 2.5" stainless system from the CAT on back. It's only a few years old and it hasn't ever been bottomed out or damaged in any way. I can't imagine that would be restrictive.
So on a hunch I shined a flashlight up the tail pipe and saw a large chunk of something almost completely obstructing the passage. I made a long hook tool out of some sturdy suspension wire and was able to break up and fish out the debris. It was large chunks of CAT honeycomb!
