CT started doing emmisions again. Since I failed the first time I had my friend (he is a VW mechanic) come out with his dealers VAG to test it out to see if I would pass after clearing the codes.

And its a no go, my cat is throwing a code, I originally thought it was my O2 sensor but seems like the cat is no good.

I will swap it back out to stock....hopefully that will help.

Im not sure if its the age of the cat or what, I had it for about 20-30k miles so far.

:(

it's probably the "below efficiency" code that other people have been getting too. I think that means it just doesn't warm up fast enough. Talk to Spanky, he was going to do some mod so that he wouldn't throw codes.

shit and i thought the cats were ok on the AEBs. is it possible you have an exhaust leak somewhere? is it actually throwing a code CEL on dash?? or is it a DTC? this could derail my plans to get this cat. :(

damn......that means we gotta either run stock cat or keep swapping cats before emission?

Have you been driving the car with CEL on the whole time you had it on? If so then might as well get a test pipe and swap in the stock cat when you go for emission.

it didnt pass again? how long have you had the higflow cat? i heard they wear out alot faster than stock cats. something like 30k miles.

also, did your car go on the dyno or was it just checked for codes? ive got to bring mine in...

A high flow cat will throw a code normally but it won't necessarily throw a CEL. The car will pass the emissions sniffer if it's warmed up but if they plug the car in via the OBD port it'll show a code. Basically you just need to get someone to reset your codes with a VAGCOM and take the car in for the test.

If you're doing a lot of short trips the ECU throws this code because the cat is taking longer than expected to heat up. A high flow cat just doesn't retain heat like the ceramic core stock cat.

Are you saying that even with no CEL, you would still fail with the OBD port? I thought it was ok long as you don't have a CEL.

No this doesn't work. You can't just clear the codes 5 feet from the emissions testing place and drive up and get the emission test. That would be too easy to defeat. The OBD test checks the readiness codes to see if they have all passed. When you clear codes you also reset the "readiness" checks. In order for all the readiness checks to be set to pass it takes a couple days of driving or a precise set of driving conditions can make it happen sooner. If you have a vag-com, you can see your readiness checks. It's a button right next to the one you use to look at the codes. Only after all your readiness checks have been set to pass can you then go get an OBD emission test. You may luck out and get them all passed before you pop the code, but it might take some luck.

So what option do we have for high flow cat?

Some cars have problems with the high-flow CAT, some don't. If you don't have problems, then you don't have problems. If you do have problems, you can modify the rear O2 sensor mount with a spacer to help it get the proper readings. How to install high flow cat and not throw CEL. Josh, you even posted more than once to this thread, tsk, tsk... :poke: :)
