  1. V6 Auto Driver Side Cat. removal

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
There isn't enough room to slide the cat. pipe backwards to extract the assembly. The Bentley makes no mention of removing transmission support or maybe dropping the sub frame to get enough clearance. Is there a write up some where's on this ? Thanks for any help.
  2. Before the cat

    B5 Garage
Hey guys, I'm replacing the whole exhaust and now roadblocked by the skinny passage as the pipe heads up to the manifold. There is no way that pre-cat and flange will make it down. Am I to lower the subframe, supporting the motor? I tried to find help in multiple searches but only found a...

  5. Gasket sealer on turbo to cat connection?

    B5 Garage
My "OEM Grade" MagnaFlow cat broke at one of the welds (cat/pipe joint nearest turbo) after 5 years so I'm replacing it. (BTW, my original cat lasted ~11 years so you be the judge.) Just got the old unit out. Last shop apparently used some copper based gasket sealer on the turbo to cat flange...

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
I educated myself with the steps for removing the rack and pinion. Unfortunately, the b5 isn't always the same. When it came to removing the lower bolt (from below) on the rack and pinion. The cat and a heat shield were in the way. So to get access I need to remove the cat. I replaced the...

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
I removed the driver side cat. assy. with no issues, but the passenger side upper nut I can't seem to get the right tool for it. I have the "snorkle" removed and I've tried to get a tool on it from the top side, but the Kombi valve (EGR) is in the way to get access to the top nut. Does any one...
  9. FS: 42DD high flow stainless steel CAT.

    Parts For Sale
for sale is a part i had planned to put onto my car, but.... well... i sold it (the car). LOL it's a 42 Draft Designs high flow OEM fitment catalytic converter. if you go to stage 2, they require you to typically have a high flow cat, or a test pipe, and this will be the best solution as it is...
  10. Wastegate Found in Cat

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
Several years back my turbo stopped working. Actually it hadn't been working very well for a few years, it was loose and jingling. Anyway, I found the wastegate a few years later when I replaced the downpipe. I can see why it wasn't working well even before it detached. It's actually worn oval.
  11. Recently removed cat - getting P1176 code for 02 sensor

    B5 Garage
Hey guys, I had a clogged catalytic converter on my 2005 GLS wagon, so I removed it and put in a delete pipe. Now it drives alright, but I'm getting the P1176 code. I put in a bent spacer on the back 02 sensor, but the code came back after driving for an hour. I'm wondering now if I just need...
  12. O2 Sensor, Cat and Emissions Advice?

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
I have a 2004 Passat V6 2.8 wagon. I live in NJ. Posted a little bit ago regarding a possible bad driver side Cat after getting below threshold engine codes (P0431). I definitely feel like the Cat is at least partially bad given the O2 sensor readings and because there's a distinctive bit of...
  13. Clogged cat - replace or delete?

    B5 Garage
Hey everybody, I found out that my 2005 Passat isn't getting boost because of a clogged cat. A mechanic quoted me $780 to replace it, but when I said that might be too much, he told me I could also just put in a delete pipe. He said he wouldn't do it because he could get in a lot of trouble...
  14. Stuck on vacation - who makes cat delete flash?

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
The day before we left for vacation, I took the car to the dealer to have a new key programmed, and for an alignment. Several hundred miles into our drive, I started experiencing misfires, and getting catalyst performance below threshold, and O2 Sensor #2 out of spec. MIL codes. I have a...
  15. Aftermarket Cat for a '12 Passat SE 2.5

    Volkswagen Passat B7 Discussion
Greetings Everyone, I have to replace the catalytic converter on my '12 Passat SE 2.5 liter. It went sideways around two weeks ago and yes, it's throwing too many codes for those who are going to ask. I'm looking for an aftermarket one, but prices are all over the map so I'm not sure where...
  16. Pre cat O2 sensor

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
So a couple weeks ago I swapped my stock down pipe with a full 2.5" one from TT. Durring the swap I removed my cat to make the swap easier. When I was removing the cat I first removed the pre cat O2 to see how it looked. It had a good amount of white deposits around it but also some gray. I had...
  17. 07 3.6 dealer found faults P310B Low Fuel Presure and P030 Cat Eff any thoughts?

    Volkswagen Passat B6 Discussion
The dealer advised that I needed to replace fuel pump and module. Last year they replaced the fuel pressure sensor because of high idle when stopped, this did not fix the high idle issue. The car still runs and the CAT is a DEC only 3 months old. Any thoughts, car has 130K? Thanks, Steve::D
  18. Flexi Pipe Gone Cat Good

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
Hi, The drivers side front flexi pipe on my 2.8 v6 4motion has corroded but the Cat is fine. All the garages are quoting over £300 to replace the Cat, they say it's a full front piece flexi and Cat. Is it possible to splice in a new flexi pipe? I had a new after market Cat on the passenger side...
  19. Is there a guide anywhere for installing direct fit cat '02 1.8t Automatic

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
I have searched all over and cant find a guide anywhere. The only thing I have found is to disconnect the downpipe from the exhaust and pull the whole thing up out of the engine bay. That thread stopped after the poster said he couldn't get it all out and was now trying to get the 3 bolts off...
