Took the Passat for her annual state inspection today. She passed with flying colors!

It's always a fun to watch the guys look over my Passat. Once they open the hood there is always a gathering and a lot of looking around. The first time a few years ago I was concerned they found something wrong. As usual one of them came into the waiting area and said I have a couple of questions.

Q- Who works on your car?

A- That would be me.

Q- Who details your car?

A- Also me.

Q- Do you wax under the hood?
It's an amazing car, looks like a new car especially the engine compartment.

Generous, but I'll take it! :D

Q- Would you detail mine?

So of course I came home pulled up the EKTA and ordered her a few new things from 1stvwparts to reward her. In a week or so she will get a box of goodies!

I popped off the right front brake pads trying to track down a a squeal at 30mph and below. Goes away when I stomp the brakes. Turns out part of the backing on the inboard pad flaked off where it makes a ring around the piston. Filled in the gap with the anti-squeal goop. Hmph still wearing even too. It's a shame, I have 90K now and they have enough meat on them to go to 120k at least.
I'm having the same issue. I will change pads and rotors soon. How did you end up resolving it?

I probably replaced pads and rotors, i can't remember. That was almost 5 yrs ago. I rarely drive it now. Hasn't seen 10k in the past 2 yrs.

Last week was the exterior detail, and today/tomorrow it's the interior's turn (I know this is going to be a big job, and I'm taking my time - never had a car with leather interior before). Also received my new tires (wheels I got last week), but alas I can't get them installed on the wheels and car today - so I booked an appointment to get 'em done next weekend. I'm soo looking forward to that.

Fixed a VSS to ECU issue, Replaced the rear brakes, and replaced the front tie rod ends to pass NYSI in the 1998.

FLAPS rear rotor for one side didn't fit right. It seems the hat is too deep, so when I bolted the wheel on, the outer edge of the inner side of the rotor was pressing hard against the caliper carrier bracket. Never seen that before, so I just reused the original rotor for now.

Dried out carpets and underpad on right hand side of car ( Then repaired the tennis ball sized hole in the right rear floor board - due to the rubber plug disintegrating and the metal around the plug rusting out. I removed the loose rust, painted both sides with zinc primer. After primer dried I used a piece of galvanised steel, some 5 minute epoxy to close the hole. What a PITA !

Sealed the Cabin Air Filter housing @ the gasket with caulking, caulking, and more caulking. Found the small round rubber seal that the goofs at Speedy Autoglass left off the passenger side wiper post and installed it again. Our wet stormy weather should allow me quick confirmation of the repairs I've made.

just search. It's all over the place.
