I only go to Shell or Chevron. I hear Sunoco is good, but I never see them around here. Avoid no name gas stations, or ARCO.

On a side note, there used to be a no brand gas station that was called "Fast Gas"

I have no clue if they are still around, but as a child I thought the name was hillarious.

FWIW, corporate propaganda about "top tier gas": http://www.toptiergas.com/

I fill up with the cheapest available 91 or 93 octane gas. A no-brand-station is fine by me. Never had a problem. I throw in some Techron fuel additive every so often.
agreed. the cheapest ones in my area sheetz, kangaroo, walmart etc. usually just go there and save a couple bucks

MSRP of a 12 ounce bottle of Techron is $8.99 I believe.

The price difference of filling up with Chevron 91 over Arco 91 is roughly $0.04/gal.

So it costs me about $0.60 more to fill up my car at a "Top Tier" station. Where are you getting your bottles of Techron for $0.60 each?

;)

Is there a list of the best gas stations to fill up at.
All gas starts off the same until the additive package is put in, and they were all the same too. Then supposedly a few brands teamed up with a few top car makers to put more detergent in as the car makers felt govt standards were too weak. They call this Top Tier gas. It could be just marketing hype, meaning a lie... but since then I use a top tier gas when ever possible. Shell actually.

Here's the story and a list of brands. Even some budget brands are on board with this.

Top Tier Detergent Gasoline

TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline is the premier standard for gasoline performance. Six of the world's top automakers, BMW, General Motors, Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen and Audi recognize that the current EPA minimum detergent requirements do not go far enough to ensure optimal engine performance.

Since the minimum additive performance standards were first established by EPA in 1995, most gasoline marketers have actually reduced the concentration level of detergent additive in their gasoline by up to 50%. As a result, the ability of a vehicle to maintain stringent Tier 2 emission standards have been hampered, leading to engine deposits which can have a big impact on in-use emissions and driver satisfaction.

These automakers have raised the bar. TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline help drivers avoid lower quality gasoline which can leave deposits on critical engine parts, which reduces engine performance. That's something both drivers and automakers want to avoid. http://www.toptiergas.com/

Nice first post.

If BP is the cheapest 93oct, I'll get it. As long as someone has 93, I'll buy it there.

Dave, you logic is? Who uses a bottle of techron every fillup? It's usually every oil change. 5k miles, roughly 300 miles per fillup, That's $10 ;)

ARCO IS BP. they are both the same.
if you read an ARCO sign you will see on the bottom corner it says BP with their logo.

the only arco i put in my car is the special 92 octane near my house. its the only gas station ive ever seen in california with 92 octane. usually its 91 everywhere.

but usually its chevron or shell for me. or 76

i use a fuel injector cleaner every 7k. but the 1st time i ever used it on my passat i used it twice in a month. to make sure i clean out any bull the previous owner may have left behind

Chevron or Exxon for me...the former because they're good, my neighborhood station is competitively priced and they're very nice, hardworking Pakistani immigrants. The latter because I earn nice rewards on my Mastercard.

I refuse to use Citgo on principle, and I'm getting that way towards BP, but I realize that for every "boycott" we might try, the local station owner and distributor are the ones hurt the most by this.
