WTB: Full FIS CAN Petrol Cluster to fit B5.5 Passat

Hi,

I'm looking to buy a full FIS CAN based petrol cluster which fit a Passat B5.5.

Even if you have one to sell with a faded LCD I may be interested, I'm just struggling to find anything! I've spent hours searching on eBay...

Example part numbers:

3b0 920 845
3b0 920 847
3b0 920 849

Thanks,
James

Thanks, actually I just did that a couple of days ago and I was lucky enough to find a petrol FIS cluster :D It should arrive in the next week and the only downside is that the speedo is in km/h, but I plan on buying a lockwood gauge face for mph (once I have money again) in order to fix this. Luckily the gauge face is in two separate parts for the speedo and RPM, so despite the fact I can only find diesel lockwood faces, I can just replace the part that is for the speedo...

No offence but personally I'm not a fan of the faces with the white on the dials. I did end up ordering another petrol B5.5 cluster with the mph speedo from which to pull the faces for my full FIS cluster. It was a lot cheaper this way than the Lockwood faces (ÂŁ20 vs ÂŁ45). The donor cluster I ordered is the half-mfa (easily and cheaply available) and I confirmed the warning lights in the speedo dial are exactly the same as the full FIS onto which I will be swapping them. Therefore, I will just chop off a square of plastic from the donor face where the idiot lights are, in order to convert this face to a full FIS instead.

What is the benefit / differences between this and a normal Passat instrument cluster? I don't see any oil pressure or ammeter gauges, but post a link to more info. on the cluster if you have it. ;)

Does this cluster have an LCD/LED display that can survive ten summers of daily 150 degree F interior temps without the "It's time to trade me in" display fade to black? If so, count me in.

edit: Looks possibly like the W8 (VCDS hybrid) cluster, where you can monitor lots of the same info. as if VCDS were integrated within the cluster (just a guess).

I think the main difference is the display is full screen not half like most Passats except W8... Comes in handy if you have an OEM navi MFD. That way it shows you directions right in the center of the cluster.
As for the display guarantee I don't think you will get 10 years even from VW lol...Mine still works fine but not sure how long it will take for it to start fading...

Well personally I can/have enabled the following with this cluster:

1. Distance to empty display (miles left based on the current fuel level/mpg)
2. Permanently illuminated needles, even when the lights are off
3. Cruise control light only illuminated when the speed is set (default is the light is illuminated when the cruise control switch is set to "on", not necessarily when the speed is set)
4. Welcome message enabled for the display
5. Idiot lights replaced with warning messages on the LCD, under the car status menu
6. Modern dial faces
7. Sat Nav directions (Direction arrows, road names and distances) displayed on the LCD - when paired with the VW MFD Sat Nav Radio which I also retrofitted.
8. Radio station/CD track display at the top of the LCD
9. A nice big LCD menu in the centre of the screen, rather than a half height one.

Also with regards to the LCD fading, the cluster I bought had a newly replaced LCD and so it should last a good many years before it "may" need replacing again. It's more likely the car will die before the LCD... and if not I can replace the LCD myself.

I will post some pics shortly of the cluster :D
