I live about 45 minutes north of LAX. Does anyone know where I can go to a track and run my car on it?
Tracks aren't "public"...you need to find a car club or other similar group that hosts track day events of one form or another. Often they are described as "driver's education" or something similar. Well, yea a drag race would be fun. I was talking more like a top speed run. I want to see what the pull is like up in the high 100's. I know the V6 has a lot of torque up high but I wanted to feel it. When my limiter kicked in I was still pulling hard. God I hate that thing :sad:ALFRED said:Irwindale Speedway if you wanna do 1/8th mile drags. Those are usually held on Thursdays.
Road course tracks in general simply do not have long enough straights for cars to reach top speed...this applies to almost any class of car on nearly any track.VWPassatGLX155 said:I was talking more like a top speed run.
Wow, thats far. I was thinking something 2 or at most 3 hours away. I want to top end my car, but I want to do it legally. I have no interest in getting another speeding ticket. Especially for going 150 mph.Macabre said:I believe the best test facility for that in your area is the I-15 raceway about halfway between LA and Vegas.

No, I know what race tracks are for. Its just really the only place you can speed and not get a ticket. If I am going to go 40-50 mph over the speed limit I would rather do it in a place where I am not going to hurt someone should something go wrong. Just an innocent question, no need for bashing. Quarter mile is not really much of a thrill in an essentially stock Passat V6, it serves no purpose. I could get a quarter mile time anywhere. There are not many places where you can feel how much pull is left on the V6 at 120 mph.Macabre said:Bonneville Salt Flats, UT.VWPassatGLX155 said:Wow, thats far. I think you have the wrong idea about what race tracks are for.
Hah, 101 sucks for racingJohnIskarous said:How about the 105, 605, 210, 5, 10, 110, 91, 60, 57, 405, and 101. LOL    JK ( I couldn't resist)
Well, my lack of interest in quarter mile tracks is the fact that most are themed toward those who are attempting to find out their best quarter mile time, and speed. My goal is just to feel engine pull at high speed, and at the same time, test highspeed cornering and braking.Macabre said:Well, to be honest, you're not going to be going much faster in your car at the end of long straights than you would be at the end of a 1/4m track. Not many clubs have track days at superspeedways, because, well, seeing how fast your car can go is about 30 seconds of entertainment at best.
