Just bought it in April. A 2000 1.8T, black leather, silver exterior, 72,000, for $7200!! Auto Rx, oil change, and transfered my k&n panel filter from my audi. Other than that, nothing. No problems the last 2500 miles. Don't worry guys, the timing belt will be changed within the next 1000 miles (DIY obviously, I won't let a stealership touch my cars, I fixed everything on my A4)

 

I've only had my '98 1.8t for half a year now, and I'm not much of a modder, either. But I've fixed a lot of stuff! Just passed 85,000 miles.

- 3 oil changes
- new air filter
- new cabin filter (old one was so bad huge chunks of leaves would fly out of the vents)
- 2 new front window regulators
- 3 door microswitches, 1 trunk microswitch
- new OEM stereo
- iPod adapter
- new mats
- new sunroof carriage assembly
- new cruise control everything
- new thermostat and engine coolant sensor
- replace timing belt, tensioner, water pump
- spark plugs, brake flush
- new tie rods and control arms and alignment

Hoping things will just WORK for the next 6 months! =)

Upcoming - subwoofer, take apart doors and fix sagging cloth, replace inside door pulls, sound insulation in doors, sound insulation under center console, fix little plastic thing surrounding steering wheel, new driver front wheelwell liner

upgraded to W8 in September 2007 - chipped in October (pump performance and race file), clear markers, chrome mirror caps, warning triangle mounted in trunk lid, new airfilter/pollen filter & belly pan. Just had Motul 8100 E-Tech oil change done. NGK Iridium IX sparkplugs go in next weekend.
Hoen Xenon match H7s, H3s and W5Ws on the way along with euroswitch.

 

I bought my second Passat in February, took it home and put it in the garage.

Drove it, washed it, drove it, washed it, etc.

Added a Euroswitch.
Changed out the front lights: PIAA H3's for the fog lights, PIAA W5W's for the city lights. PIAA H7's are next, for the high beams. I might change 'em all to Hoens, haven't made up my mind.

In order, this summer:
Tires - undecided.
Brakes - pads, SS lines, better fluid.
Suspension - stiffer shocks, I'm not going to lower the car, if I can help it.
Exhaust - Magna-Flow?
Chip - GIAC

That'll be all.

well i didnt really care to 'mod' out my passat when i bought it back in nov. 2k5, just thought it would be a better car for gasmileage and insurance purposes, however, after seeing some of the members' rides and how nice a b5 can look with a little help; and also seeing how caring the passatworld members are to help out when they can, i took advantage of the wealth of knowledge on this forum board and i became hooked:

-bought a single owner bone stock 1998 1.8T for $3600 with 123,xxx on the clock...drove it stock for about a month of two, then around feb of last year it began

and started it but it hasnt moved an inch this year

-Replaced the shredded snub mount with a poly PMS one.

Rebuilt the top half of the engine after the idler pulley siezed and shredded the timing belt on the highway.
