Timing Belt Change - Was it done right? And more woes

Last week I had my timing belt service done at EF1 Motorsport. I've had suspension and brakes changed by Fabrizio 2 years ago. I mainly went to EF1 because I just don't trust the VW dealers. I bought the timing belt kit from bimmer parts. I also had my Transmission fluid changed...I brought my own filter.

The Bill for the service...
Timing belt service (4.5 hrs @ $75/hr) 337.50
Trans fluid (9 quarts @ $11.55) 103.95
Trans fluid service (3 hrs @ $75) 225.00
-------------
Total (tax+haz) 680.03

1st Unfortunate circumstance...
I popped my hood to look at the work. I can't even close my hood.
Apparently Fabrizio mentioned that an adjustment has to be made.
But the worst part is that someone tried to forcibly close that hood
and dented the front edge of the hood. It's about the size a palm.

2nd thing...
Acceleration seems quite restrained. It's as if you really need to floor
the gas pedal to get going. It seem like a vacuum hose has a leak
and the power is escaping. Was something missed with the installation?
I also noticed that the engine has a noisy idle...like there is a
rattle. The engine just doesn't have the pur anymore.

Any Ideas?

I have a 2000 Chipped Triptonic Passat.

Thank.

I made a lot of assumptions...

When I asked Fabrizio about the timing belt and tranny fluid change? He said "sure we're a full service"...but apparently he nor his mechanics had never done it on this car.

Yes, I could kick myself!

Yes I'm taking it back.

We did take a test drive but I was a passenger...so it was a hard to notice a difference with the acceleration.

He's a nice and credible mechanic (according to the B5 community). In fact, he even called me the day after I complained to know when I'm bringing the car back. He expressed his concern and was even willing to toe the car in if I couldn't drive it.

Guy.

Great.

But they SHOULD have either put you in a loaner or rental and kept your car until it was done right.

Anything less is BS.

They changed my timing belt at EF1 last year. So they have done timing belts before. But probably not VW style transmissions before. Also how the hell did you put 9qts in the transmission? Or was that just the amount you brought there, most amount people have gotten into the tiptronic tranny was 6qts. Anyways, you should complain until you're satisfied, I go to EF1 alot but stuff like this shouldn't be happening. Also check that your bumper is fully secured as wel as your belly pan. My bumper had misplaced screws and whatnot, good I have a spare bumper that I had on. Let us know what's up, I seem to have a "noisier car" as well.

Timing belt is a VERY specific install. Its easy to screw up and requires a lot of attention to detail.

I'm debating RIGHT now - Dealer for $1200 or Indy for $700?

Another member here - 00Psst had this indy do his and it was nice. Im very weary trusting mechanics these days. Its hard to find a solid shop. Someone that is deidicated. You know.

Any input? Its the same age old question - Its for a 2000 GLS 1.8t Variant
