The stealership is at it again, this time it's the rear window regulator

So I had to take my '03 GLX in for the heat shield recall (I know I know..I was lazy), and since I was there I told them that my rear passenger's side window would go up but not down. I am a longtime reader of this forum so I know about the little problem with the plastic tabs. Yeah the ones that hold the window to the regulator tend to fall out, so its a quick job of replacing the little white dowel. So I figure it would be a cheap fix. Nope, they quoted me $514.76 to replace the regulator! Give me break! are these guys nuts!!

I work at an indy and our rate is $105, we aren't the cheapest but we are not the most expensive either. I have to stick up for the dealer on this one a little bit, if they replaced the just the clip that is MAYBE the cause of the problem and then something else happened shortly thereafter you would expect them to fix it for free and when they didn't you would more than likely bad mouth them. Their repair insures no more issues for a long time to come....
X2 on both accounts.

jalapeno, you can get the regulator without the metal pan for about $100 and DIY. It's not a difficult job but takes some time. I replaced my front in about 2 1/2 hours. http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/s...se.com/search/?N=0&Ntt=Volkswagen+Passat+Window+Regulator&Ntk=Main&No=15&Npp=15

I realize their overhead is more than an indy shop, but is it really THAT much higher? $1,100.00-$1,300.00 for a 1.8L TB change compared to $600.00-$800.00 or so?

Must be a lot of blue-haired old ladies keeping these service departments open.

IIRC our local rates are close to $100 per hr, Daddy. Local indy is only $68.

And Mr. hot pepper, the dealer Cannot just replace the broken pin/bracket If your regulator actually went a little while later (like 2 have on my A4) they'd be expected to pick up the tab.
