So it looks like the Passat may not make it to 500K afterall. This car has 475,000 KM on it and the crankshaft seal went, oil everywhere. I thought this would be a simple fix but things escalated pretty quickly. After replacing the seal I had to retime the engine because I made the mistake of...

When I first started here I had just purchased a 2013 SE, then three years ago, traded it for a 2016 SE. Now three years after that got a 2019 R-Type. Got to admit, they keep getting better and better. Ride difference between all three are #1 = 2019, #2 = 2016 and #3 = 2013.

On my way to work a few weeks ago, climbing a hill and all of a sudden I lose acceleration, power steering, and battery light comes on. "Huh," I said. Pull over to the side of the road, turn the key off and back on - just starter whine. Ooops. Timing belt failure. 276,000 miles, and the...

My daily is a 2000 1.8T and I've had it for about 4 years now, 130,000 miles on it right now. Now that I'm single that leaves me with a lot of extra time and money (who knew?) and I've been fixing what I can on it for the past few months. What I've done so far: - Repair the oil cooler (temp...

Sad News Well my friends, it's finally time to say goodbye to my 99 1.8T. Too many miles and too many things to fix. Plan to fix the right front wheel bearing this week and then sell it. Good News I just purchased a 2011 BMW Z4 with very low miles and showroom condition. So, goodbye to...

I hope to get another 10-20k miles out of my Passat as it is at 173k, but it's tired and the writing is on the wall. I have started to look at replacing the car early, so I can be ready should and when I need to do this. Ideally I want a much younger low mileage model but the budget is limited...
