its a pseudo-triangular piece on either side of the frame, right at the rear of the sides of the transmission.

if you were to get under the car and think "car's boobs" you would instantly know it.

is there a way to replace it, like to say you bottomed out and destroyed it?

not that i did, but i need those two forward empty bolt spots.

 

Yes, I replaced mine and its only like 15.00. The frame bolt is really long and high tq. The other three (yes should be three) are like 30 NM. I would check Tq numbers and it might not be a bad idea to get new bolts while doing this too. Also Just do one side at a time for the subframe can shift if both are loose.

 

allright. thanks for the advice. i can see that easily slipping and moving a bit.

may be good to save this until i decide to purchase the upgraded rs4 mounts, as it helps to drop the frame slightly.

is the $15 a dealer price, or was that from somewhere else?

if there is a part number available, i would like to know it so i can order them cheaper.

 

I ordered it from rich@autobarn and I just looked it up at the time. Its maybe 20 mins of work tops and If you do one side then the other...the frame shouldn't shift at all. I just can't find a place that will move subframes for a great alignment.

 

Are these boobs a legitimate jacking point? Will jacking there bend anything or throw off the alignment?

 

I changed my motor mounts last week and while installing the long bolt, I broke it...it should be OK to drive for a few more days right?

 

no. don't count on it.

it may seem stable, but the fact of the matter is the subframe is loose. it is missing one of the engineered-for-use bolts, and seeing as how the subframe holds your engine up, it would be a BAD idea.

 

^Which would suck a lot. If you didn't know...

 

incorrect. it would blow (literally, blown engine), seeing as how you would scrape the oil pan off.

this of course is not to mention the fact that once the car runs over it's own heart, the body and undersides will be likely totaled as well.

There are some stretch bolts down there that cannot be re-tightened or re-used. Its been too long since I replaced them on my '99, so i cannot remember much else.
