Stupid Question <--- Rear Wiper Switch

My B5 variant was bought used and didn't come with any manual. I am trying to locate the rear wiper switch. I found the washer - but now I am worried the rear wiper is inoperable.

Any place to look for troubleshooting for a broken rear wiper in case I am "SOL"?

Thanks-

Re: Stupid Question <--- Rear Wiper Switch (Racewinner)

I don't have a variant but IIRC from my girlfriends Golf that has a rear wiper, push the wiper stalk forward and the rear wiper should work. Again going from memory don't drive my girlfriends car much.

Maybe someone with a varient can chime in.

The wiper runs intermittently (speed is not selectable). Also, push the stalk further and you will activate the rear washer.

Finally, you can (in all probability) order a new owner's manual from any dealership. Well worth having.

Re: Stupid Question <--- Rear Wiper Switch (Scuba2001)

27 it was - but unfortunately - the fuse is in A-OK!

So - my stupid Question turned out to be an actual problem - here are my symptoms.

I activate the wiper and it moves about 1/8" inch - almost "jerks" then stops and doesn't move again. I ventured to remove the rear interior, but stopped as I wanted to make sure I had the tools to fix it before ripping apart my car.

Here is another issue - I never noticed on anyone else's B5 Variant - but does the wiper blade start in the 270 degree position (-90 deg. counter clock). Mine is actually resting at about -60 deg counter clock.

Not sure if I can access the wiper mech. from the outside or if the interrior needs removing.

Re: Stupid Question <--- Rear Wiper Switch (Racewinner)

As to your non-movement issue, your wiper motor might be shot, but that seems not too feasible.

As to your wiper alignement issue, you should be able to pry off the wiper arm cap with a screwdriver, loosen the nut, and readjust the angle. The Bentley Book indicates the "wiper blade must be 25mm from lower edge of rear window". Hope we're all to these strict specs....

Re: Stupid Question <--- Rear Wiper Switch (flipsauce)

Thanks flip-

I readjusted the blade - just to stay in "spec" - but unfortunately, I may have a bad wiper motor. Wondering what the cost to replace this will be. I have all necessary tools to replace with a used/salvage unit, but does anyone have a good source for this?

Thanks.
