Greek, I say do it! I've been on this site from the early days (August '99) and there has always been a sort of tension between the A4 and Passat owners. This would completely get rid of that. And it would be very helpfull for all! I say it's a great idea!!!

I'd love to have the A4 added. I have an A4 avant.. (2001) and a '98 Passat avant.. both B5's... and I search all sorts of forums for info. If you added the A4... all would be right with the world :)

If it looks like a :b5: and drives like a :b5: - it's a :b5: and deserves to be on the CLUB :b5:

Damn Chas for beating me to it by two posts!
There certainly seems to be a concern about how the A4 owners will act. I have to add... what better way to make them see how a REAL web community can be run! I'll also tell you that I think A4 owners (the nuts and bolts type) will be an invaluable resource to this site, and even many Passat owners will learn new things. I too have been here since Aug. 99, and since that time, I've sold my B5, bought an S4 (yep... still a B5 platform) and purhased another B5 wagon. As someone who's owned all the equipment, I'll tell you that I don't think there are many differences at ALL and that I have things I wish my S4 had that Passats have, and vice versa (OOHHH if they'd have made a 2.7T passat from the factory...) I think the change would NOT have as severe an impact as some image, simply due to the fact that they (B5-A4/S4 folks) are already HERE! If some more of them come around, and start to talk down, I think you'd be surprised at the support of those of us who are former passat owners....

As for AudiWorld, if you've not been there much, or at all, it's honestly a pretty good community as well. I disagree with Jay's take that there are no hands on guys over there. There are at least 5 I will consult about pulling my 2.7T to upgrade turbo's before I'd even talk to a tuner. I may be seeing something different in terms of S4/A4 due to seperation over there, but most of the S4 guys are VERY hands on, and very helpfull. No offense, but some of the best tech write ups I've seen are there, and many of the original clubb5 and Vtex write ups were copies FROM tech write ups on AW. As with anything, it takes a little getting used to (I hated it at first..). Give it a try, and don't knockit till ya try it!

Here's the thing. I think we are arguing a moot point. There is nothing on the home page, or on the forums page that says "Passat." Sure there are pictures, but nothing that states this is a Passat website. If its a B5 platform, its a B5 platform (or 5.5). Add an Audi B5 of the month and a Tech forum for people to discuss the differences and that's it. Has this site ever been so A4 unfriendly that we now need to announce that we are accepting these owners? :???: Don't know, I'm new. But I do enjoy the close-knit attitude of the site, and I would hate to lose that.
I think I am now done posting on this subject. I will accept the end decision, continue to drive my B5.5 and keep smiling all the way down the road (and I haven't even chipped my engine yet!).

Cheers 8)

I've never 'felt' any tension between A4 and Passat owners other than the fact that some A4 owners feel they are superior since their cars have the '4 rings'. But that is a small minority.

As for myself, I did the opposite of the "norm". I got rid of my A4 2.8 in favor of a Passat 1.8T and I've never looked back. The smoother line of the Passat's rear window (C Pillar) sold me.

That said, since the A4 is a B5, I'd say include it, definitely. The cars too similar not to include them. I always thought they should be included anyway. :weirdo:

That's my opinion anyway...

This isn't a debate about "accepting" A4 owners. Everyone knows they are accepted, and more than welcome here. The question at hand is, should we cater to them more in terms of doing an A4 of the Month and opening up some forums strictly for A4 owners.

IMHO, I'd like to see it. The A4 is the same platform with mostly similar issues, and the performance slant they have is something I'm interested in. That and $4 buys a cup o java at Starbucks...

My reason for wanting this to remain a Passat only website has nothing at all to do with the A4 nor A4 owners... matter of fact later this year my wife and I will be adding a 2004 A4 to our stable. I would like CB5.com to remain Passat only because I take great pride in being a member of the biggest and best Passat community on the net. The A4 has always been a very popular model worldwide (relative to Passat), and will always get plenty of coverage... press, cyber, enthusiast clubs, etc. IOW, the A4 will never have a problem finding a home. Let us keep this small bit of the universe dedicated to an automobile that reflects our tastes and choices. I also frequent the other VW and Audi sites, but consider CB5.com, home.

BTW, wasn't/isn't there a ClubA4.com?

I think it is a great idea. The cars share so much. I am actually considering a new S4 after the first year and would love to stay involved with this group. I also own a Merceded AMG C43 and the club for those guys is dull and boring and they do not seem to have the passion that the B5 Club has. Let the A4 in, it will enrich the club. 8)

Yes. After all, if it wasn't for the A4, we wouldn't exist. It is a B5 after all
:)

I sincerely believe that there will be a lot to be gained by sharing info with Audi owners. Nevertheless some of our members seem fairly opposed to having them on board. And dissention amongst ranks is not what we need. If we kept it separate enough (and I 'm sure The Greek with the other Modder's will work it out) and invited the A4's in, I am sure we could have some sort of organised chaos. We must remember that we are platform specific, not car specific...And I beleive this move goes a long way to us being impartial (to the point of being partial to our platform). This wil lfurther indicate what I found most interesting about this site... B5 is the most open minded, mature car forum out there....

I say NO.
Cars share some parts but they are not equal.
Let's keep this Club ONLY for B5 & B5.5.

I would have to agree with Kathy (atomicalex for those that don't know) that I would be more concerned about the next/previous generation Passats than A4's. IMHO there are already plenty of Audi specific outlets but far fewer Passat outlets and certainly even fewer that are large and self sustaining.

I mean, for Audis you have a choice of AudiWorld, AudiLife, AudiZine, VWVortex, et al. While I don't think this site should include the A4 specifically, I don't think it should be excluded either. Basically leave it as is.

Of course that's just my $.02

If I had to choose, I would vote no. This is really the only site exclusive for passat owners, and i believe the material could get extremely diluted.

Your points are very valid, I have only been on Audi world a short time, and of course 99% of the time has been in the C5 forums. So I guess it really isn't fair for me to make comments on the S4 or A4 forums since I am too goo...I mean since I don't hang there ;)

I know the only useful info I have found on my 2.7t has been from the S4 folks.
