Hi,
I've got a '99 1.9TDI SE 115 and I'm having a few problems.
Between around 2500 and 3500 revs the rev counts seems to jump around, seemingly at will, bouncing up and down sometimes up to as much as 1000RPM without the engine following suit.
The problem doesn’t occur when accelerating hard, but is most noticeable when motorway driving. At around 3,000 in 4th or 5th (80mph)the engine starts to really struggle and splutters. It feels very sluggish until over 3500 revs when it picks up again.
Not sure if its anything to do with this, but I have had two occasions when the engine has cut out and died when I have hit the rev limiter, most off putting as one of them was as I was joining a motorway from a slip road. Rolling onto the M40 with no engine was a tad scary. A quick turn of the key and it started again and away I went.
The car has been to a VW dealer who claimed they could not find any fault with it.
Not being technical or mechanical in any way I would appreciate any help you can provide.
Sidney
