While we're on the topic, I've been trying to do some more research on this stuff (waiting for Wheelguyz to open). I've found this on another forum, posted by someone from tire-rack...

The centerbore of a wheel is the size of the machined hole on the back of the wheel that centers the wheel properly on the hub of the car. This hole is machined to exactly match the hub so the wheels are precisely positioned, minimizing the chance of a vibration. With a hubcentric wheel, the lug hardware will not be supporting the weight of the vehicle, all they really do is press the wheel against the hub of the car. Some wheels use high quality, forged centering rings that lock into place in the back of the wheel. This is an acceptable alternative.

If you have non-hubcentric (lugcentric) wheels, they should be torqued correctly while the vehicle is still off of the ground so they center properly. The weight of the vehicle can push the wheel off-center slightly while you're tightening them down if left on the ground.

All VW's have a 57mm centerbore, OEM wheels are bored to that spec. 98% of all aftermarket wheels are bored larger and use hub centric rings to make the wheel hubcentric to your vehicle.

Well, I've called them and I was told the salesman (Marcus) is not in yet, and neither is his manager (Manny). So, now I'm supposed to call after noon. I think that may be a ploy to alow them time to ship my order so I can't change it, so I'm going to call in an hour or so...

I'd tell them to CANCEL or at least SUSPEND your order for now until one of them shows up. They should have no problem with this... that is, if they're an honest business.

IMXTREEM2, who are you buying these from again? My guess is they are not trying to ship you the wrong thing before you tell them what you really need, if it's one of the well known wheel houses that is. I would do just as gnosis said to. Call them and tell them to hold the order. I'm sure that everything will work out fine and even if they shipped them already you can get the right thing sent to you and then have them compensate you. Don't get too ticked off at them yet. Go the distance and treat them with respect, you'll most likely get it in return. I am a little surprised that they don't seem to know more about what you need for your year Passat since that is what they do, but then these things can always happen. If for some reason they become difficult, you might want to mention the repercussions this could have being that you post on this club page. I personally have thought about these rims but would definitely pass on buying from where ever you are getting them from if they don't respect you and deal with you appropriately. Good luck bro.

I'm getting them from Wheelguyz.com. They had an ad someone put up here on our forums, and the price was outstanding. I'm definately giving them a lot of respect and trying to work with them. I'm cautious of what I say to them, but I'm talking regularly with everyone here... I've now been on hold for 10 minutes for Manny, and I've got to hang up and go to a meeting for work. I guess I'll call after that... More to come! :weirdo:

Alright, here's the scoop...

I got another guy in sales on the phone (Javier). I was on hold for about 5 minutes after telling him what I wanted to change. When he came back, he ran through everything again and said Marcus would call me back becaue he was in a sales meeting. So, I'm awaing a call back. It keeps going and going and going...

What, is Marcus the only guy that knows anything at that place? You think they could just say "Ok" and ship you the hubcentric rings you need. Is this really rocket science we're dealing with???

And pretty much

:puke:

To top if off... The saga shall continue. I'm calling again now...

Ok, ok, here's the latest...

First off, Manny is guy you want to talk to. He said straight out, "I'm the director of this company, and I know exactly what you're asking for."

I've changed my order to include the following:

QTY:4 - 18" HP Evo Hyper Silver Light
QTY:4 - 225-40-18 Tires (Wanli - probably crappy tire, but will last a season or two)
QTY:20 - 14x1.5x25mm Concial Lug Bolts (Similar to OEM)
QTY:4 - 73mm to 57.1mm Hubcentric Rings
Included in the pacage is: Mounting, Balancing, and Shipping as well.

Out the door, the price was still $1,039.00. I think it should have been a bit more with the Lug Bolts, but he said he would keep it the same.

I did ask him to fax me a copy of the order (and I got the quote above about being the Director). I don't know if they're busy or lazy, but he wouldn't fax it to me. He did say they should ship out tomorrow though, so we'll see how it goes. According to the chart on their website, it should reach me in 3 days (Chicago).

I'm not confident at all that the order will come complete and/or how I've requested it, but we'll see. Keep your fingers crossed for me guys! If all goes well, this post should include everything you need to know about HP Evo's, the Wheelguyz, and what our car requires to run aftermarket wheels.

I'll post again if anything changes or as soon as I have the rims. If all is well I'll throw some pic's of the car up when they're on...

What year is your :b5: ? I have a 2002 1.8T, I wonder if there is any difference between the Passat models if any of this information. Good info though, keep up the good work.

Very Nice ride Phat. those HP's look classy on your baby.

IMEXTREM2, sweet 2003 you got, I like the chrome handles and mirrors, I'm surprised you're not going with a chome wheel... Wow that would really set that car off.

What do you guys think, HP Evo's on my ride as well? I have a hard time seeing them with my color but I think they would look nice. Hunting for the perfect set of rims is tough.

Well, you already know my answer... : )

Let me work out the deatails from start to finish with mine, and you should have everything you need to know if you're going with HP's...

I was considering chrome wheels, but I didn't want to have chrome overkill. I think the wheels' polished lip will look really sharp, yet subtle enough at the same time.
