Part Number for Front Brake Shields (wet braking con't, kinda long)

I and several others have had wet braking problems for a long time. I put on some shields quite some time ago that attached to the belly-pan, but that didn't seem to help too much. I was at the dealer today and finally remembered to look at a newer car to see what they were doing now. Low and behold, on the 2002 that I looked at, they actually had water/dirt/rock shields behind the brake rotor (like all other cars that I can remember owning, and like the rears). It only covered from the top point of the rotor down to the middle of the rotor, about 1/4 of the rotor, but I think it may be the trick. My 2000 does not have these. I even found a 2000 on the lot for sale that had them. There was not a visible part number so I went inside to talk to the parts department. He looked it up on his ETKA and although they described a shield and had a picture, it didn't look anything like what was on the cars I saw.

Does anybody have their front wheels off right now? Can you check to see if you have a part number on them? Thanks in advance!

VW should be providing these for FREE. Why should we have to buy a factory part to make our cars safe in the rain?

this part is especially helpful when dirt or rocks get lodged in between them and the brake rotor...not that i know from experience or anything

By the same token, you could also ask why owners of 15-year-old Passats should be charged for retro-fitting airbags into their wheels. These running changes just happen out of the blue

I found the same part numbers in mine also, but the actual part doesn't look much like their picture in the ETKA. For those who aren't sure what I'm describing, here's a pic of one I found on a Jeep website:

The ones that I saw are only about 1/4 or 1/3 of this full shield. I can understand them putting them on newer cars, but when I saw a 2000 (same as mine) with them on in the dealer's parking lot I wasn't too pleased. I doubt that they will give them to me, but the service guy gave me the number of VOA Parts in L.A. I'll see what they have to say on Monday.

Re: Part Number for Front Brake Shields (91 16V Jetta)

Well, I finally got the shields today. They are exactly what I was looking for and they ended up costing only about $6 for each side. I need to remove the brake rotor to get at the screws so it will have to be done this weekend when I have more time. I'll post part numbers and some pics during the install.

Re: Part Number for Front Brake Shields (91 16V Jetta)

so you have a MY2000 and your car didn't have these? I have a 99 and would like to pick them up. Where did you get them for $6/side?

Please send me the details as soon as you get them (or just repost here). Thanks

Re: Part Number for Front Brake Shields (Medrosje)

Can anyone clarify the part #’s needed for a 99 Passat?

One post says
8E0 615 611 C for the left
8E0 615 612 C for the right

And another says
8D0-615-311-E
8D0-615-312-E

So which one will fit a 99 TradeWind… anyone know?

Re: Part Number for Front Brake Shields (drive)

Both #'s are for disc shields. The "8E0" number's unfortunately are for the REAR. That's what I've ordered - before I knew better.

Items purchased from DrewParts are returnable for a full refund (you pay for the shipping back) so all is not lost.

The front shields are now listed in DrewParts special orders section - all shields are now identified as to application.

Re: Part Number for Front Brake Shields (TurboJim)

I am more interested in the $6 parts. Any other info on those : )

Re: Part Number for Front Brake Shields (TurboJim)

this is probably one of those causes where size really does matter. i would think that you want the shield to be as close to the edge of the rotor as possible, so that there is less area for water to get in around the rotor.

Re: Part Number for Front Brake Shields (Medrosje)

So I think I have figured out the two sets of part numbers...The 8E0 parts are for the REAR. They are more expensive, and have a larger lip, but they certainly dont go on the front.
Image
So I have $30 of parts that I don't need. I had the brakes done today with Mintex and Zimmerman cross-drilled; no front brake shields so I guess we'll see how it goes.

Re: Part Number for Front Brake Shields (FronnyB5)

quote:
Anyone know if brake shields exist for B5.5 (2001.5)??????

Are you sure you don't have them already? They first started showing up somewhere in the MY2000 production run.
