Well since I've cleared all my CEL issues recently, I've really been thinking about getting chipped again and was looking for any opinions..It looks like getting chipped would really be the best bang for ya buck if your looking to add a good amount of power. The only thing really holding me back is hearing mixed thoughts about the decrease in engine life. I asked my brothers mechanic what he thought, whom he tells me is VW specialist..His mechanic replied, if I don't have a backup plan for a car then don't get chipped. Unfortunately I don't have that kind of money right now. I have read that as long as you don't race every car you see from light to light :D..and you keep up with regular maintenance...upgrade some parts, you should be good to go. I don't drive aggressively all the time..pretty casual..most of the time. BUT every once in awhile it would defiantly be useful to have some extra power.
I'm about an hour and half away from a Neuspeed dealer up in New York so I wouldn't have to take out the ECU leaving me car less, then I get to test her out on the way back :D I planned on a new FPR, TIP, some kind of exhaust setup and eventually a FMIC. Any thoughts welcome!

Well people get chipped and stay like that for years, sure itll put more stress on the car but i wouldnt think its way excessive. Id stick with more reputable brands like GIAC, APR, Unitronic and Revo. Upgrading your FPR without the software requireing it (most all dont require it) will just make your car run rich. I ran a GIAC file and loved it its what i recomend

Upgrade the DV.
Make sure you have the right plugs.
Use the good gas.
Use fully synthetic 502.00 spec oil and the larger oil filter.
After spirited driving, give it a cool-down interval before shutting it off.
Don't race your Passat off the light (they don't launch all that quickly). From a roll, you'll surprise people  .

That's about it.

I'll be selling an APR 1.0 chipped ECM for the AEB engine sometime soon. I can pre-code it for manual or automatic before I ship it. Let me know if you're interested.
