guys, i really really need your help. These stuffs are so frustrating. I have no idea what's going on with my Passat 1999.
OKay, at the beginning my windows didn't work suddenly... I went around to the local VWs, and have them did the diagnostic....both of the dealers charged me about 90 bucks each to do the diagnostic. both of them said that I need to change the motor of each window. I did the job at the local independent shop because the price is much cheaper and I got the motors from the junkyard. The windows worked for about two days and after that they just didn't work again. But each time I push the switch, i could hear some clicking on each motor.
Later on, my power locks got some problem. SOmetimes they would lock and unlock fine and sometimes they just don't work appropriately.
My interior dome lights don't work at all..........
Right now i have another problem, I could not fill in the gas because the gas cap cannot be opened by pushing the button. do u know what how to open it manually ??
allright guys, you heard my whining about this car... could you give me some opinion to fix all the problems?? Should I go to the dealer to fix the problem ?? I live in L.A county, close to O.C, what dealer is the best on fixing this kind of problem without ripping you off ?? I think that the problem is not on the mechanical of each component but it's more likely on the electrical or control unit problem ........ please please for your help ....... thanks so much for your response.......

I had a weird fuse go out on me once that caused issues similar to what you are seeing...and I think with the trunk lock as well. All I remember is that there is more than one fuse (and the one I'm thinking of is not obviously stated in the manual). Go through your fuses, it may be called convinience module or something) and make sure they are all ok.

The gas cover is only controlled electronically, you are going to have to leave it with enough gas to take it to the dealer. There isn't a way to get it open manually. You probably blew a fuse. Check your box real quick, if it's not there it might be internal.

I second that, a fuse !!!

One day ... the remote did nothing, had to open with the key in the lock. Also many control lights weren't working, couldn't open the windows, etc, etc.
It was a simple fuse.

It is worth to check those fuses.

Got a similar problem since I bought my B5 used...the central locking, trunk and fuel filler were screwy and none of the interior lights worked.

Traced it to the CCM and the harness going to it, spliced some wires and clean off corrosion off some crimps and fixed the lights and the driver's door unlocks now with the remote.

I would check fuses, then the CCM. To pop the fuel door, open your trunk, pull out the trim on the right side enough so you can get your hand behind it. Feel for a metal shaft with a kind of rubber boot on the end. Just pul on that and the door will pop open, I've been doing that for some time now.

If you work out your problems let me know. Hopefully some of this helps and I could use the help in tracking the rest of the electrical gremlins.

Yeah, I had similar problems to yours......traced it to the wiring harness for the CCM.
As cm103 said "Traced it to the CCM and the harness going to it, spliced some wires and clean off corrosion off some crimps and fixed the lights and the driver's door unlocks now with the remote. "
I did the same, now all works ok.
One last question, have you had a water leak in your car ?......I supect you have as this is the classic result of blocked drains & a leaky pollen filter !

guys, thanks so much for your response... I checked the fuse last time and they were all okay, not burnt out. But tomorrow, i'll go over the fuses again. Is there any specific fuse that needs more attention due to my problem??
Could you explain what do you mean with the CCM or where is it located??
For the water leak problem, i don't really notice about that. Do you know where it might be leak ??
Thanks so much for your help about opening the gas tank lid. I'll definitely try the way u told me.
All the best for you guys out there

for the water leaks, yeah i think i have some trouble with it because everytime I wash my car and when the day is raining, my car got some water coming in from the front driver's side and it will end up wetting the carpet on my left rear side. Does it cause some problem on the electrical part ??
