  1. Cam pulley holes don't line up

    B5 Garage
Hi, in the middle of changing timing belt, I have the cam pulley locking bar and crankshaft locking tools. I have rotated the engine so that Cylinder 3 is at TDC. However, the right camshaft holes are perfectly horizontal but the left camshaft pulley sits at a very slight upward slope, as if...

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
I'm trying to get my family in pretty reliable and MPG friendly cars. The BHW powered passat can do all that once the BS is deleted and cam is checked and replaced if needed. I want all manual gearbox transmissions. The ZF left much to be desired and as these cars get older and so many second...

  6. AC and viscus fan don't turn off, after timing belt change

    B5 Garage
1999 Passat 1.8T AEB engine. Just did a timing belt change, which I have done before with no problems afterward. This time however, when I start the car the fan starts up and the AC won't shut off. Is this due to the sensor in the lower left front of the radiator that may be bad? I just took...

Hi guys, thank you for your time viewing my post. I recently purchased a VW Passat 1.9 TDI v reg (1999) 110bhp. After looking at some of the sticky posts I believe it is a B5 model. The car did not come with a hand book so I'm here trying to figure out a problem. I tried searching google and...

  11. I don't get the whole Patina thing.......

    Anything Auto
A few weeks back, I went to the annual VW show put on by the Stateline Volks Folks in Rockford, Illinois. I still can't believe what won Best of Show. The prize went to an old, dilapidated-looking Beetle from the mid-1960s. The body had more rust than visible sheetmetal. It had a roof rack...

Hey all, from Virginia here. Short version of a long story... My first car was a 1974 SuperBeetle. Got it in non-running form when I was 14. My dad made me buy it myself, and said I had to fix it if I expected to have wheels when I got my license. Best education ever. Since then I've had...

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
Replaced my driver door lock actuator last weekend. Yay for dome lights and and headlights-on beepers. :) I noticed that my driver door no longer unlocks when I remove the key from the ignition after a driving trip. All other functions seem to work just fine; remote locks and unlocks normally...

Hi, I have a 2005 passat TDI wagon. When I start the car, the e-brake warning light comes on. While the light is on, the wipers, heat/air blowers and signal light won't work. When this first started, it would go off after 30 seconds. Now, especially after a long drive, it won't go off at all...

  20. B5 glove box bought from Ebay, made in Germany? I don't think so.

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
I bought this lid on Ebay for my 1999 Passat and it flat out does not fit. The back of my original lid has trox screws holding the box together. This is made totally different, yet it shows it is the replacement I need. Am I missing something? Is this made in China...
