Check the fluid level 1st. It may have just leaked out. Also check that the belt is not loose or soaked in oil. Has the pump been making any noise? They usually start to buzz/hum/moan before they go bad or if they are run dry.

 

its moaning like a creaky humming noise, there was a bit if oil on it and some pipes i cleaned them all off and took it for a spin, went 1/2 mile still clean no oil... oil level is on min mark ill top it up later.with it beeing on min level and not working do you think its pump that gone?

 

I would top if off and see. A fluid change should be done before sprending money on a new pump. Start with the cheapest fix and hope it works.

 

sounds like the pump at this point. i remember same thing happend to my RX-7 . I just took the belt of and drove it like that.

 

On the '98 1.8t, the water pump is driven off the PS pulley, so you have to have the PS working.

I hate that design.

 

all of a sudden its peeing out oil comming from back of pully so the seal on the shaft must have gone can it be changed?

 

please can some one tell me how to take the power steering pump off its looks like i need to take rad off but surely it isnt designed that bad
