i tried once to put a IB sub in a box for a camero guy, it had 118 inches of port area for a 12 and still sounded like blah. i cut him a board for that little area and it rocked pretty good... if ib then IB if not then dont try it with a non IB sub.

the area in the "well" of a Camaro isn't large enough to simulate an IB setup unless you're running something like a single 10 or smaller.

And the amount of port area doesn't matter if the box size and port length don't jive with the sub.

which is why it didnt work...his design i just built it. but the IB way worked much better. so in closing....dont be afraid of IB but just make sure you get a sub that likes it..

if you want to get into box building the you need Thiel Small Parameters fro the best box. I have an OLD DOS program that works wonders with modeling graphs and calculates port size based on tuning Hz. Great program for most people, Has helped me develope and design some slammin systems.
QUICK BOX was designed for the speaker
building hobbiest to rapidly design
closed and vented boxes.

For VENTED boxes, standard unassisted
alignments are represented. Any of the
alignments may be modified by changing
Vb (the box volume) and Fb (the box
tuning).

QUICK BOX also designs 4th order band-
pass boxes based on the work of
Philippe Augris & Dominique Santens
as presented in Speaker Builder SIX/88
by Jean Margerand.

QUICK BOX assumes that you know what you
are doing. If the abbreviations used,
such as Vb, Rg, Qms, etc. are foreign to
you, it is suggested that you purchase
one or both of the following texts:

Loudspeaker Design Cookbook by Dickason
&
Bullock on Boxes by Robert Bullock
