2001 VW Passat B5.5 1.8t, AWM Engine Type, Sedan
So today i replaced my SAIP and installed back my repaired ABS module. Also i poured Sea Foam into oil and gas to clean it up a bit. I did it all afternoon and after all this work car worked perfectly fine for around 40 miles. In the evening I was going back home from work and randomly he choked a bit and RPMS started going down, i noticed it and started stepping on gas deeper with no effect and eventually he just stopped and died. As soon as he died battery light came out. I tried to run the car with no effect, everything is turning around, spark is there and fuel is delivered (to injectors at least), but he just wouldnt run, the only thing is that battery light is on. Everything electrically is working, I called for my dad so we can give a shot to jumper cables (i knew it's not gonna work anyway) - no effect. Basically I "towed" it to my house (pulled by rope lol). And have no clue what to do. It's my only car and need it fixed asap. Also I'm short in money so if it's possible i just want to fix it myself. I was thinking that maybe the relay responsible for injectors doesnt open them up and the car doesnt deliver the fuel? Or maybe sea foam did something wrong? Idk, made oil too liquidy or something and the oil doesnt create any pressure? Oil light is not on though.... PLEASE HELP

there is that pipe where you can uncrew it right under the engine cover and gas started squirting out so gas is there
and i did plug the scanner in, nothing
by the way...
i checked for spark plugs today again, there is no spark on any of them... any suggestions? i have brand new coil packs
i looked at relays, tried to switch them around to see if maybe one of them will be dead but no effect, however three of them were darkened on their legs, could that mean anything, i called dealer and asked what are they responsible for, they told me one of them is fuel pump, another closed connection and third one they couldnt tell me cuz didnt have description
i also checked for timing belt, nice and tight
when car cranks, rpms go up

Guys that's not an issue...
It was an issue for most of this thread, we can't diagnose without info.

IIRC Fuse 12 is only for the OBDII Port.
You won't get spark without a fuse in pos. 29. Check the fuse holder, what's that mess I can see in the pic. ?

You should not swap relays around unless you know what you are doing, some are wired differently internally.
The darkened connectors could be causing, or caused by a connection problem.

But forget about relays until you have 12V on each side of Fuse 29.

Did the 20A fuse blow again after you replaced it ?

So is this a pre-2000 passat?

Mentioning the model year and other such basics like scan results, etc, is the best way to prevent this :banghead::banghead:

glad you found your problem ;)

EDIT: a 2001.5 passat with an ICM? is there any black flat thing attached to the top of the airbox?

If you were working on the abs stuff what did you unplug and replug in? If you undid anything under the coolant tank id check again.Something could have not fully clicked together and vibrated loose. check fuse 29 specificly for the ignition. Also ecm fuses. If all is good; there could be an issue with the crankshaft position sensor. It sends signal to the ecm for spark.

do you have a spare ecu by any chance, or a friend or family member w the same engine code as yours, AWM? if so try swapping the ecu w a different one. I recently had unexplainable misfires, and it turned out to be the ecu was the problem. mine is an aeb w diff coilpacks than yours and an icm, but maybe worth a shot just to rule it out anyway, because this happened totally out of nowhere to me and I tried so many diff things before thinking to try a diff ecu, and when id did it fixed it right away..like I said just something to think of trying...good luck

VAG-COM is usefull for a lot of problems, but only if there is an electrical signal that the control modules are set up to read. An ICM output stage, or fuel pump for instance, won't directly flag a fault code, so you have to use other methods to troubleshoot to component.

Earlier today i decided to look at relays and maybe just switch the same ones around to find if maybe one of them is bad (my only way - idk how to check relays) and I found that this fuse was blown up:

Also, am i missing somwhere where i wrote on the pic? I replaced the fuse but no effect.
Also, you told me to look at fuse 29, please enlighten me if im not right, the only fuses i know about are these:

and as you see im missing fuse 29, the other one that i marked (on the top) according to fuse diagram is responsible for the same as #29
Are we on the same page right here?
