Here is the case, a 25 years old PW member, married, want to buy one of those 3. the 2000 M5, the Audi RS6, and the 2000 Porsche 911. all of them seem to fall into a similar price range... 30k-40k, if you are wondering...:D

which one would cost less to maintain?

my pick is the rs6, lol since it's similar to the b5... this PW member could save a few bucks on regular maintain such as tie rod ends, oil change, brakes and so on..... sux that there is no manual rs6 .

Cost less to maintain? I would agree with you that the rs6 would cost less just because you are probably more familiar with the platform.

My pick would be the M5 though. That may be a little biased though as we have had three M cars in the family over the years. Other than tires, expensive maintenance was never an issue.

when you mentioned year on the 911 my kneejerk response was RS6. The sound of that thing trumps all. Personally it does more for me than the M5 and if it was my daily driver it's not even a question. Have any of you guys experienced the M5 clutch?

Depends entirely on your reason for purchasing. Is this going to be an only car, every day driver? Or is it a second car pulling mainly weekend duty?

You can easily buy a 996 C2 for under $30K. As a matter of fact, I know one with ~30K on the clock that you could pick up for around $18K, of course it needs a new engine (just under $10K installed) ;) . And how did you decide on MY 2000? Of those listed, that'd be my pick.

i love the rs6...BUT they are a dime a dozen nowdays around here. seems like everyone is ditching them since they are loosing their warranties. local dealer lots have a few at a time here and they jsut sit there.
be careful with either of the 3 cars. they all will be maintenance whores.

That's because your two local dealers are idiots Jacek! RS6's aren't a dime a dozen, but Niello and Lasher both assumed they would go for $50K plus and overpaid for them. Niether could sell them. Kick ass car though. For $35K -$39K and Audi certified it's great. For $50K spend a little more and get an RS4 which is a better car in every respect.

Remember it's still a 10 year old platform design, and with all the power it's stil not up to speed from a driving point of view as the new S6 or RS4 and I think that hurts them on the used market.

Chipped RS6's eat transmissions too so that's almost not worth doing.

RS6. I see way more M's than I want to around here. Porsches, unless driven by 40-60 yr olds screams dickhead to me.
