leaking CV boot grease passing the clamp

a few month after replacing the CV boots and repacking grease, I notice that the grease seeps out very so slowly.

Both side are seeping.

I plan to wipe them clean and try to clamp tighter; then wait and see what happens next. Any suggestion or advice?

In addition, should I be worried about the loss of grease so far?

I think you might have gotten a wrong boot originally. The boot is different between B5 and B5.5. Here is the boot from ECS Tuning, it looks the same as mine but it looks different from yours. Notice yours does not have small end lip on inner edge and have one extra flex rib (5) than normal 4.

just a thought but maybe you could break that one time use clip off and see if you could get another clip to fit a little further back and tighter.
If I remember right from redoing mine there should be plenty of space to move the clip down the boot a little.

outer CV boot, about $20.

Problem is, they are tough to replace and most people just buy a new axle all together. In order to install them you either need an expensive air tool to stretch the boot or you have to disassemble the ball bearing joint. I did it on mine and its not fun and its messy but it is possible.

If it were me I would first try to put a new clip on there and see if it holds the grease any better. It just looks like your clip is slipping off or something.

@yrwei, I probably have correct boot form my B5 1.8T. (I think V6 and 1.8T differ in drive axle - hence different boot, though it is possible B5 and B5.5 differ too).

@mrbutterz, yes sir, I will try tighten clip, or find new clips.

@Insane_Dude01, it is doable to replace just boots, clean and repack the joints; yes it is very messy, but it is better than get some cheap axles.

I had the same issue and just loosed the crimp carefully, reseated the clamp on that little notch in a slit further up the clamp and tightened it again. Haven't had an issue in about 10k miles of driving. Won't cost you anything to try and if it doesn't work, you would have otherwise replaced the clamp anyway.
