No offense but I think you made a bad choice. You bought a Subaru with a Saab nameplate and in return you get less warranty and a much lower resale value.
Most "car people" know it's the same car but when you trade it in I bet the book value will be a grand or two less than a Subaru with the same options.

*Edit* The warranty is better on the Saab...I should pay closer attention next time. I still think you'll lose money on the trade in value though.
1)As you can see, I corrected myself about the warranty long before you posted.

I'm not sure where you people are from but Saab resale value sucks here. Almost worse than my W8 LOL.
2) I also stated my W8 will depreciate faster. And we're not even sure about that seeing how fast Saabs depreciate. But if you can tell me where I can by an 8 cylinder, AWD, German automobile, with 17,500 miles, and a 100k warranty, for $20,100 let me know. I'll even settle for a 270hp, awd drive german sedan that can haul a family, any number of cylinders? Audi? no.. MB?..no..hmmm. I knew I was taking the hit when I bought it. But I bought it because it was different. Maybe you did the same?
But it doesn't change the fact that you're going to take a hit come trade in time. Someone else mentioned the cobalt engine and it's not the first time I heard the rumor of Saab using it. So other people are going to hear it too. And maybe Saab is using it in another vehicle, I have no idea.
Yes, WE all know your car is a Subaru for the one thousanth billionth time. But to the rest of the world it's a Saab. To my mom, my aunt, my uncle, my boss at work, and 90% of the people you see daily, it's still a Saab and the resale value will reflect that. Just like my Escort was a Ford to everyone that looked at it, no matter how many Mazda parts it had. The same way my W8 is "just a Passat", or even worse - Jetta, to the rest of the world. I can claim Audi and Bugatti lineage but no one cares. And very few people will care that your car can claim WRX lineage. They just know Saab is owned by GM.
Compare street prices on these:
Geo Prism vs. Toyota Corrolla
Geo Tracker vs Suzuki Sidekick
Escort GT vs Mazda Protege
Saturn Vue vs any Honda with the same V6
Or wait a few years and compare the Mazda 6 to the Ford 500.

As far as sticking with the Escort. I wish I could have with todays gas prices. It was never my ONLY car. Just a nice car to scoot back and forth to work in. Plus I even won 2nd and 3rd at a few solo events with it. Unfortunately, at 180k miles, somone drove into the side of it. It never smoked, never leaked oil, never broke down, A/C still worked. I never replaced a single part that wasn't a tune up or wear item. If you think your Saab is going to be trouble free you'd better go read some WRX boards, pronto.

I never said I didn't like your car. In fact, I like it alot..so calm down. Maybe you'll make up the difference with the discounts and insurance savings. Who knows. Just don't be sad when you find out what your trade in value will be.

So they might know that GM owned a large portion of Subaru.

You're starting to stretch on these. They are not at all realistic comps. This is a 9-2x vs. WRX thread, you're stretching it too much with this and the Mazda 6/500 comparisons. Heck, maybe it's better to compare the 500 to the S80 than the Mazda 6.

Come on. Like WHAT? I read some Subaru boards, what's the big deal? I know this much, I have way more confidence in Subaru of America taking care of me than I do VW of America.

You make some very valid points and by your posts you come across as being pretty knowledgeable. But it seems like around here using a Passat as a baseline just no longer cuts it. Seems like everyone here has owned a bunch of cars and decided to cut their losses with Passats and move onwards. Out of curiosity, is this your first Passat or other German car? If so, I'm wondering how much longer you think you'll own it (even with that 100k warranty) and if you'd get another Passat. I loved my Passat but I'm not so sure VW will ever get business from me again (as much as I love some of their products).

I care not whether you like my car. I love it, that's why I bought it. It's the fact that you appeared to condescend to me for making a poor choice due to resale, while you drive around in a W8, an awesome car, but one that takes a lot on the part of the owner to maintain. Do I question your decision? No! Why? Because I assume you are a car guy, who did his homework and committed to a high maintenance automobile, being fully aware of all pros and cons. Same as me. As far as reliability concerns, I am aware of the weak trannys and will not chip or otherwise modify the drivetrain. With proper care and maintenance, my chances of having a reliability nightmare are much lower than with my Passat. The ride is a little soft, but very comfortable in comparison to my B5's Koni/Neuspeed Sports setup. The car will not be lowered, but I may add thicker sway bars to controll the roll a bit more.
So, once again, my decision to purchase the car was made after considerable amount of research and planning. I love driving the car as much as I like looking at it. Which is why I reacted as I did to you choosing to rain on my parade, while driving one of the most complex and high maintenance VWs yourself.

WOW! I just saw this post. I have to say I am a little dissapointed on the sale, maybe I speak for all Milwaukee B5 and B5.5ers. Congrats on the purchase though! I'm sure it will be a much easier car to deal with. I didn't even know about your break in and all the troubles!

We'll have to do a farewell, like bury some broken control arms at sea in lake michigan or something.

Truth be told almost every car has a shitty resale value. Even Honda and Toyota resale values are really only good for the used car lots, the consumer still gets bent over in the end. . . literally and figuratively. I mean your "resale" is only as good as the guy offering you money for your car. Right? Unless you sell your car on your own you are going to get fucked pure and simple, even at that you're still going to take a hit.

To be quite frank, I think resale is the most over hyped stat on a car next to 0-60 times. And really, unless you hang on to your car for years and years, you're getting fucked on your trade-in. Ask any car salesmen, they'll tell you they make way more on used cars than new. This from a guy who has owned and traded a Toyota Avalon (I got fucked on my trade in) and two Camry's (one my wife is driving and the other I drove for 13 years and donated it.)

All that aside, cheers and enjoy the car . . . and drive it until the wheels fall off! ;)

Trade in? Yeah, that's your mistake right there. Truth be told, I'd probably be too lazy myself to sell it privately, but you're not allowed to bitch if you don't even give a little effort.

You're right but I can just imagine how many dreamers and joyriders would line up for "test drives" for a WRX/SAAB 92X. Oh boy would THAT be fun! :rolleye:

Congrats Kezho. Nice new whip!

Your :b5: was awesome, but knowing the way you drove it, I pity the fool who buys it. ;)
Come on Toa, I didn't drive it THAT hard, LOL. Not any harder than I've seen you drive your Variant at times - both, myself and Antoddio, can attest to that :hmmm: ;). I just didn't pay much attention to the speed limits, but that's another story... The B5 was meticulously maintained. All preventive maintenance was done on time and in full. All oil changes were done with full Synth and larger filters. New timing belt and water pump at 75K. My only woes were with the dreaded ABS module and the suspension bits. The clutch and tranny were still excellent so was the exterior and the interior. I would think that if someone bought her after getting the problems I listed sorted out, they would be very happy.
Thank you for the kind words guys. I'm not leaving this community and will try to participate in the future Mid West events.

That was the prick Illinois cop that took ToaofSteel's fine case of Sprecher beer at our Milwaukee/Chicago April Fool's GTG. He also issued him and GreenCar tickets for drinking in the park...they were around $70 each.

I was shocked as hell he didn't yell at kezho for taking pics right in front of him.

This one was from a tree. Note the beer on the back of the truck.
