some problems with B5

Hi guys!

I recently purchased 99 1.8T with only 79.000 km, and now I have a list of "to do" things.
First, I need to know if I'm due for a timing belt replacement, can anyone help?
Also, the guys at Midas told me that my transmission has a leak (AT triptronic), apparently the rear seal is leaky. Any solutions

Which dealer/repair shop would be the best choice for me to service the car?
Note, I don't have any warranty on it :banghead: , and I intend to cahnge all this as a prevention.

The car's running great, by the way.

It's good to see so many people from YVR in the forum!

Re: Yvr

Thanks Howie!

this is what I found out today:
guys at Midas (I'll never go there again!) told me that I have a steady rear seal leak? and that my transmission is leaking(whatever this means), so I went to AALL for a free diagnostics check up. Guess what, the check up is really free - they told me that my transm. is fine, however there is a leak from beneath the engine, they couldn't tell exactly where.

My concern is: is it possible that an engine like 1.8 t has a leak after only 79.500 km? And it is the real mileage, I checked with CARFAX and AIRCARE.
Besides, the car looks as new, this is why I bought it at first place.

Anyway, I gave up from dealership - it's way too expensive.
FYI, timing belt is 1.2 k and transmission oil change only $490!!!???

I'll call the shops that you've recommended and see what they have to say

Thanks again for your help!

Cheers

Dan
