So, again someone sitting on the rear seat knocked off the rear ash tray. I tried to put it back in place as before, but its not locking, I noticed a loose piece plastic with a U-shaped groove in the center. Any ideas on how to fix this.

Exacly why my next car wount be having rear seats ( TT maybe ? :p )

Always pisses me off after people have been sitting on the back seats, the center console from the cupholders / ashtrays and the rear door panels has been kicked for black stripes.

Also the cover for the cupholders is one item that gets kicked off way too often... :(

But for the ashtray, is it the cover that's busted or ? (on my car the ashtray is on top of the center console, and the cupholder slides out from the back)

This is the pic of that plastic part. It doesn't look like its broken and should fit in some slot. Anyone knows how the where the locking mechanism is located? Can someone pls. check on your car and tell me what part holds it inplace after you push the ashtray in.

Once I fix this, I am seriously considering to put a tape or something so that the ashtray wouldn't pop out and I don't use it anyway. I just didn't want to ruin the look by putting a tape around it, so was delaying it, or maybe a double sided tape from inside.

I had the same thing happen to me. Someone kicked the ashtray so hard it broke the spring and locking mechanisms. I finally threw the whole thing out and threw it in the trash - I don't allow smoking in my car anyway. And even if I did, I would insist the ashes get flicked out the window.
