How do I get duct tape off window tinting?

I took possession of a 2000 Passat with tinted windows. The passenger window regulator is broken, and the PO used duct tape to keep the window up. Hence, duct tape on the tinted windows on the inside.

Any ideas how to remove it without affecting the tint?

Thanx!

hmm thats gonna be tuff lol hope you got a deal on the car, probly gonna want to use like a sticker remover like goof off but then again that stuff might have some chemicals that could harm the tint as well, so might be better to just try and peel it slowly with maybe water? or maybe someone knows of a safe chemical

Try the LEAST harmful/intense off the goof off, goo gone type stuff you can find and just go SLOWLY. I cant promise it will work, but its worth a shot. Worst comes to worst, I cant imagine you paying more than $40 to get just 1 window tinted to match the rest.

Is the adhesive residue hardened? Or is it still pliable?

If plyable get one corner free and use a hair dryer .. ( not a heat gun ) and warm it then try to peel it off on a radical angle. Do this slowly as you apply the heat . Try and keep the glass area around it heated to so you don't thermal stress it ..

If you can park that side to the sun.

If all thats left is the residue and its stickie I'd try the alcohol before anything else.

I had the same problem, but instead of going through this hassle, I remembered when I tinted my windows I paid for the lifetime warranty, so I took a razorblade to my tints and had them redone. I told them I had kids in the car who used their fingers as weapons. Gotta love Mr.Tint.

Get a good fibrous cloth, they actually sell glass cleaning cloths, and clean the areas multiple times with scrubbing. It should minimize the appearance of the tape residue, then use goof off or 3m adhesive remover (if it is ammonia free, I do not know for sure). But yeah. Ammonia is the tint killer.

Thanx for all the suggestions!

Today I finally tackled this. I am not terribly patient so any approach taht requires multiple applications does not work for me. I went brute force with an old standard. It was a bit risky, but I thought worst case I would have the window re-done. I used Gumout Carb Cleaner - dissolved the sticky residue quickly. Took a few minutes to do with window. Then immediately wash it with clean soap and water. No effect on the tint. Looks great!
