What about the software?
My question is how it took 5 posts to get to this question?

What's the big deal here? All those turbos have been available for years but now they are just going to include the flange adapter or make it so the turbo housing matches up with the stock manifold? You are not going to get 400 HP out of the stock manifold BTW. No way. No actual numbers, nor details on software = big speculation. I will wait to see some actual numbers.

There hasn't been much software support on the big turbos before and there won't be much either in the future, especially if you have a DBW 1.8T. I don't see it happening any time soon and the new cars with the 2.0T are being introduced. There's a market but I don't think it's that huge. A K04 is still waiting for me somewhere out there.

definately need a bigger exhaust manifold. even with the atp stage 3 and pes t-28, those include exhaust manifolds too, and they're rated below 300hp.

you'd also need larger injectors and probably a larger MAF housing if you're gonna hit 400hp.

Exactly. The fact that its a "Soon to come!!!" product, they are holding back on certain IMPORTANT details to build hype for the product. At least, so it seems. What they want is for everyone to get all excited about this new turbo upgrade that appearently "bolts on". Im really interested in hearing what they say about this product. Whats included? What will we need? What kind of power is being claimed? Will I need internals? Etc? Etc? Etc?

Some here have been here long enough to remember the ATP debacle with "Wunderwagen" and his great variant. Dave's machine was "sponsored" by ATP and what a cluster-f!ck that was. In effect, his car was the test mule for the T03/T04E programming and installation.

The day he showed up at an ND Show at Moffett, they (George at ATP) didn't tighten down the exhaust manifold; according to Dave it almost fell off on the way to the show. Then he pointed out the nice anodized BOV just ahead of the TB. Very nice looking and custom but when you looked at the tubing, it was rubbing against the bulkhead - again, Rev A. of their installation. HE also indicated they STILL had not gotten the programming correct and this was 6 months after getting the turbo.

He has since abandoned ATP. ATP in turn has realized they don't do good installations ( YOU THINK???) ; from my last conversation with Dave about a year ago, I "believe" they recommendTomas Motorsports up in San Pablo (30 minutes north of where ATP is) to handle installations so they could concnetrate on building these GT series turbo's.

But you're all correct about a couple of BIG issues: exhaust manifold and programming; add injectors, MAF, etc. I'm sorry but there's no "magic pill". If you're going to do this right, do it from head to toe: from programming to MAF to turbo to IC to TB to injectors to FPR, to exhaust manifold, to cat, to exhaust. And remember the DV upgrade.

I've given up on the chase for now. Rusty holds some promise for the AEB/K04 crowd with his continued testing in uncharted waters. I'll just be happy if someday I can just reach 240hp and/or 220ft-lbs. torque.

I'm confused about how this is different from a GT28RS and their manifold, which they've had for a while? I guess it 'bolts-on' without a new downpipe?

Also, I don't think I've ever seen a graph where a GT28RS outspooled a K04. Even though the spud is supposed to be a fast spooking turbo, we're still talking 4k from the graphs I've seen.

We all know ATP stands for 80 Percent.....however, many people been having great success with GTRS kits running with K04 software.....in which case me and you are only looking at the turbo itself.

Time to start tinkering with MBC.....injectors.....Adj FPR......etc.

As much as I personally dislike ATP and some of their products....I think this is a great thing, any way you look at it.

Also lets not forget that the fastest Passat runs on ATP software....and from the people I talk to, they are saying that the ATP software on that Passat has been very good.

Software? Bah, humbug. Just Gimme the Turbo, I've got everything else covered...

Herman, I STILL don't have my PCIII installed. My stupid, useless, lazy, deadbeat 18-year-old stepson (the one my wife "rescued" after he got kicked out of his house in the middle of winter in Boston) has been consuming all of my time. That's about to end. I'm about to kick him out of our house, too. The wife is almost about to agree with me... :banghead: :thumbdown :censored:

OT: Damn that explains the post-nazi attitude lately! :poke:

OT: Why is it that APR has a stage III+ kit (Garret turbo) for the 2002-2005 A4 1.8T. Isn't it the same DBW 1.8T that goes in the 2001.5-2005 Passat? I know the ECUs for the A4 and Passat would be a little different (meaning you can't just swap the A4 kit into the Passat) but shouldn't the programming be the same? Do they just not want to do it. It seems like 90% (or more) of the work is already done. They even have the Stage III for 1998-2001 passat. What am I missing?

This was the same situation I had with AWE on getting a K04 file for my MY 01 BQ ecu some ago. As it turns out the GIAC file for the A4 CH ecu works flawlessly. There is not always a direct match between Audi and VW ecu's but there are some matches.
