Help end an office argument. (S2000 vs. G35 Coupe)

Okay, we have some "drama" ;) in the office!!!!

One of my co-workers has a new S2000 that he recently chose over a new G35 Coupe.
I don't know what I would have picked between those two cars, but I probably would have to go with the G35 just because I have to stuff myself in his S2000. I'm over 6'4" and about 210, which makes for a very snug, yet tolerable fit in the driver's seat of an S2k. And although I have to literally PEEL myself in and out of it, it's one of the most fun cars I've ever driven--that thing unloads a fury above 6500 RPM all the way through over 9000.

But then again, I've driven a G35 Coupe (thanks Nick!) and those things haul ass too! More low end get-up than the S2k by far.

Anyway, we're talking speed here around the office. The S2000 and the G35 Coupe are about as fast as one another. I say that it would be a close race from stoplight-to-stoplight, but the S2000 would kick the G35's ass on the track. My comments caused a little ruckus from a couple of co-workers since the cars' acceleration stats are so close to one another :p

So, how do you guys think these two "same, yet different" cars (one pure sport, the other luxury sport) would stack up against each other? I want to put this to rest once and for all.

Thanks!

Hard to compare. As with most things somewhat depends on the skills of the driver due to ease of driving the G35 compared to the more difficult S2000.

Stoplight: G35
Drag: Driver Skill (probably G35 on most days)
Laguna Seca: S2000
Pacific Coast Highway: S2000 (just because you can put the top down) :D

That would be my guess. However, I haven't driven either

I have also driven both cars, and I have to say the S2000 would win out. Both are cars are quick, but I driven both cars hard and it is much easier to take the S2000 to the limit than the G35 coupe. I drove both cars within a few days of each other, and I remembered one of the best traits of the s2000 was that you will know exactly when the limit of the car is hit. Flogging the G35, I didn't feel nearly as confident.

You just need to keep the s2000 above 6000 RPMs and its wonderful to drive. The way I see it, the s2000 is much more of a fun/weekend/track car and the g35 is a daily driver type of car.

it also would depend on the course, if it had lots of slow speed corners the torque of the G35 might win...but 9.5 times out of 10, the lighter more tossable S2000 would rule.

You were dissing his S2000? Did he get back to you with a comment about your B5? How about a race between the two of you? :D
Ha! Nah, I definitely wasn't dissin' the S2k, it's a sweet ride for sure. And of course he'll kick my ass...my car is just a grocery-getter. (That's my excuse when someone in a faster coupe wants to race.) :p He likes my Passat a lot, so he didn't have anything smart-assed to say about it; we're even planning on trading cars for an upcoming weekend. I can't wait!!!!

You're very right about that. I have driven these two cars within days of each other as well, and you definitely can tell the limits of the S2k better, you just feel more "in touch" with the car.

You know what they say... "If you don't drive an S2000 like you hate it, you're not driving it right." :p

C&D did this comparison, although the car was the Z roadster instead of the G35 Coupe, back in August this year and the S2000 came out on top. As a daily driver, give me the G35 Coupe though over the S2000 - I'm 6'4" and my legs don't fold accordion style! ;)

lol.

If you've driven the S2000, its basically a go kart on wheels. I'd never make it a daily driver since it requires so much attention to keep it on the road. Tiny steering rack + tiny steering wheel = darty steering, but amazing control nonetheless. The 9000 rpm redline is fun, but silly unless you're driving it like a race car. Its as close as you can get to a go kart without being one (well, barring the Elise, which isn't available here anyways).

My man had a worked up '86 golf. An S2k couldn't loose him, he was on his bumper the whole way. Now it's mine, and I'm about to drop an 8v 2.0 99 GTi engine w/ the head from the 86 lump an a couple more mods. Hopefully that will take me past that S2000
