Gunk from Driverside Body Molding?

My Passat seems to be oozing what appears to be a parafin/waxy/greasy type substance from behind the black plastic molding on the lower drivers side of my varient.

All I can ask is WTF? :Yikes:

The passenger side doesn't appear to have this issue. Is it normal? Is is something put there by the factory, or did the PO screw something up and pump wax into the molding as some form of storage facility?

HELP!

There isn't a dealer within an hour, so I'll need to sched. with VW of Some-where to drive 1.5hrs to get it fixed.

THANKS!

yes, it's normal.

no, there's nothign you can do about it except clean as it comes out.

no, a dealer can't "fix" it as there's nothing to fix.

this is just the sealant that VW uses essentially melting and coming out of the drain holes in the bottom of the doors.

Just to second what's been said, it's completely normal. I've had two B5.5's and they both did it, it's gunk put in at the factory.

Is that the same stuff that's usually called Cosmoline? I had a "grease buildup" a while back, that was what they called it. Suprised me at the time, but apparently it's pretty common
