Emission Workshop, Check Engine light, and shuddering.

My 2000 Passat GLX has gone through a series of problems over the past couple of weeks after getting the alignment adjusted. I've been getting some vibration while accelerating since the alignment, and a couple of nights ago the car suddenly began making noises - sometimes a squeak, sometimes a noise that sounds like a fan. It makes the noises mostly on turns. I started it this morning, and the car was shuddering like crazy and the "Check Engine" light went on. After driving for a block, the "Emissions Workshop" light went on as well. I'm not sure if this is all tied together, but I'm wondering if this problem is worth the investment to fix at this point. The car is closing in on 200,000 miles.

Probably different things going on. Vibration could be a bad CV joint, but who knows without careful troubleshooting. The check engine light and shuddering could be be an ignition coil, or any number of things. Can't just guess, and maybe you have already gotten your money's worth from that car.

As for the vibration, it could be a bunch of different things. Now the CEL light and workshop, I can give you my 2cents. I had the same thing happen to me a about a month back. Car would start running like it was misfiring. Called VW about it and when I did, they mentioned that there was a recall on the coilpacks. I also have a B5. Brought it in and they replaced them. Works like a charm now, no more cel.

Just thought as I was writting this. For the vibration, make sure there is no rust where the bolts in the wheel go in. I had that problem a while ago. The wheels were torqued properly but the wheel wasnt sitting right due to rust. This was causing a vibration on acceleration and braking. Also squeeked a bunch
