Do your windows go all the way down?

I’m getting real nit-picky in my old age. For the first time in too many years I finally bought a car and can’t find anything to complain to the dealer about. Everything seems to work, fit, etc!

Here’s a possible so I can go back and be a pain in the @&&: I noticed driver’s window and the passenger window don’t go all the way down. There is about a quarter-inch still above the door for the rear six inches or so of the window on the driver’s window, about a half-inch on the passenger side. Weird!

Do your windows go all the way down?

I know what you mean about the windows not going all the way down. There is just a tiny bit of window on the top after you roll it down. I never really noticed it 'till a little while ago. Just be glad the back window go as far down as they do, on my friend's Plymouth Neon the rear windows only roll down about 8 inches. :thumbdown

In my '03, they both leave about a 1/4" of the glass up at the rearmost 6 inches or so. I think my '87 GOlf had the same bug/feature and, IIRC, so did my '76 Dasher. I think it's a VW thang.

My front windows go all the way down.

I have owned only one 4-door car whose rear windows rolled all the way down -- my 1989 Dodge Spirit. The only way to make the rear window retract fully is to divide the rear door glass into a front moveable portion and a rear fixed portion.

There's actually a reason why the front windows do or do not go all the way down...

Windows were falling for years on most VW models due to a cheap plastic clip that broke during extreme weather temps. This would be the "all the way down" version. My "00 Jetta broke 5 different occasions.

A few years ago, they came out with a metal replacement, but it does leave a 1/4 inch of window sticking up. All of the newer cars come with this version now.

I don't remember the years exactly, but most models (probably 99-current) are covered for an extended warranty of 7 years like the 1.8T's w/ oil sludge.

that replacement part only applies to the jettas and golfs. the passat has the same component failure in the same part (not same part #), but they don't do jack about it. Just had to buy myself a new regulator ($140) to replace the damn $.02 clips.
