I have a 2002 vw passat Automatic 1.8 turbo with 120k miles. I car won't start...i have replaced the ECM..checked the fuses..Good battery new. I read all the post here and decided to check the CCM...My carpet is dry never been wet..I checked the wires and everything looks great...the CCM doesn't have any sign of water damage no corrosion...am getting power to the 2 connectors that go to the CCM....something funny happened when i was testing the CCM with the voltage tester i touched one of the contacts and the alarm started going off ..my trunk popped open and i get the interior lights...does that mean maybe my CCM is fired? The car won't start, have no central locking, no interior light and my keyfob doesn't work...Please help.

Same exact thing happened to me. Had to replace the comfort control module about 2 months ago. Originally, the dealership told me it was just the battery (I told them this wasn't the case, but they insisted) so they put in a new one, and a week later I continued to have the same problem as you. I took it back again and they proceeded to tell me it was the comfort control module and it ended up costing me a fortune (especially for a broke college student) to replace it. :banghead:

AmazingDave is a little off, as the CCM can definitely not allow your car to start. A frayed wire in the connector housing shorted and caused this to happen to me recently. Like you, no keyfob, power window, power trunk or gas door functions. However, coupled with your OTHER issues, like lack of dash lights and odometer, etc... He's correct in diagnosing that your main issue is probably an electrical glitch. The immobilizer would prevent the car from starting, but it wouldn't do all of this other stuff.

You've checked all of your fuses and relays, in-cabin and under-hood. Go over them again. Make a list of all of the functions that DON'T work, and those that do, and post them here. Unfortunately, the Passat is one of the most electrically complicated cars ever made. Troubleshooting a wiring or power problem is going to be a real pain...

Is her car CAN-BUS?

Actually, that would be damage to your car's wiring harness, which isn't the CCM's fault.

The CCM has no responsibility for cranking or starting your engine. Your car will start and drive normally with it disconnected, all other things okay.
