Hi all. New to the forum and just seeing if I can get some advice. I have a vw passat 2006 that has now has a column steering lock defect on dash, in saying that when fob key is inserted there is nothing showing on dash except the the orange wheel that changes to red with 3 beeps. I have tried pulling hard on steering wheel, disconnected battery (battery is fine, been checked). Cannot run scan tool as no communication. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Unfortunately the steering column lock has probably failed. You can either go to VW and get a new one fitted and keyed to the car or if you go on eBay you can buy a repair kit for about ÂŁ50.
It comes with two little relays and two micro switches that you can solder on to the existing lock.
To remove it you have unbolt the whole steering column and then you can unbolt the lock mechanism and open it up to access the circuit board.
