hi guys, last night the battery of my b5 acted up and I could not start the car. Have left the car in my garage. Wondering which size/dimension battery do I need for replacement, and do these new batteries come "ready to be used" or we need to charge them somehow?
Appreciate your feedback!

i intend to buy a new battery this evening or latest by tomorrow and replace it, wondering if I would be able to get my hands on the memory device before that...so just trying to assess what might be the risks of not using one while removign the battery on a year 2000 b5 model 1.8T (automatic)?

I also have a '00 1.8T Tip and replaced the batt with an Interstate MTP-91. Perfect fit and even has the drainage vent as in the oem.

Memory device...what for (another wasted $$ on frivolous contraptions)?!

I did the battery replacement myself within an hour spent and all memory settings were saved and never erased...down to my preset treble/bass settings on the Monsoon.

Autozone sells the memory keeper device next to the battery display. I bought one last summer for 5 or 6$. Comes with a 9v battery as well.

Edit: Oops, you may not have an autozone in your neck of the woods. BTW my 2002 worked fine after having the battery off for a couple hours but the earlier B5's seem to have this problem more.

A family member just picked up an 05 1.8t and the battery is dead, what should I be looking for as a replacement? I'm assuming that the dealership just a tossed something in out of another car on the lot (it doesn't look like it came from VW) or jumped it prior to their arrival (got it in NJ, live in NY) and neglected to inform them of the problem at hand. Whatever the case may be, the dealership will be getting a call within a couple days and hopefully a bill for a new battery.

hey guys, over the weekend i got rid of my old battery. Went to a super market, in the cars' section browsed thru different types of batteries, looked for the numbers that i saw on my old battery (12V - 62AH), & 280A(DIN) , 480A(DIN) and finally just made sure that the negative and positive terminals are on the same sides as on my old one. Removed the old one without using any memory device, replaced with the new one. the car works fine now and the only thing i had to reset was the clock and some petty radio settings :)
