ATTENTION TO ALL V6 OWNERS INTERESTED IN TURBOCHARGING YOUR CAR:

SQUIRES TURBOCHARGING SYSTEMS IS AN INNOVATOR IN THE REMOTE MOUNT TURBO SYSTEM, PRODUCING THE MOST HP PER POUND OF BOOST IN NON-FRONT MOUNT TURBOCHARGERS.

THEY HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED OF AN INTEREST IN CREATING A CUSTOM BUILD FOR THE B5 PASSAT 2.8L V6.

IN ORDER TO GET THEM GOING, I ASK THAT ANYBODY INTERESTED CONTACT THEM THROUGH www.ststurbo.com UNDER THE "CONTACT US" TAB.

WHEN ENOUGH INQUIRIES HAVE BEEN REACHED THEY WILL GET ON MAKING A SYSTEM FOR OUR CARS!!!!

YOU HAVE NOW BEEN WARNED...AND ps, this is not spam. I contacted them and they asked I spread the word so that they'll make the kit.

Turbocharger is driven by the heat energy of the exhaust gases, while a supercharger is driven mechanically and directly by the engine crankshaft. In a nutshell, turbos have less losses and therefore make more power than a supercharger, but you have lag with a turbo.

I think a "remote" turbo simply means the turbo is not part of the exhaust manifold. Probably an inferior design but a reasonable workaround when space is tight under the hood.

ding ding ding, tell him what hes won johnny.

look at audizine or audiworld cant remember which but there is a a turbo on a 2.8 A4 looked really good and i think he made some good power.

cost, probably about 3k to 5k. hp would put a fwd around 250whp to 270whp at 6psi. the max i'd push on the stock 2.8 would be about 8psi, but even then it's pushing. i know there's been people with some pinging at high rpm's at 9psi. ycharlies feel free to chime in....
BUT i'd be willing to bet it IS possible to put down 300 wheel with a single turbo+fmic.
if i coud just find a damn manual tranny i'd be willing to try it out.(maybe even make more than one if it works :hmmm:)
I was bored at work tonight and i've already got a pretty good design set up, just need to get the parts to do it.

guilty as charged, speaking of wasnt there something that i told you to PM me about cause i knew where to get it and you were looking cause i thought there was something but i forgot.

dude just go all out get a 4.2 V8 and slap a charger on it. there done. it will probably be cheaper as well

#15 ·
hell no it wont be cheaper. the blower alone for that motor is about 25k.
i can pick up a used a4 for like 6k, build the motor for like 3k and then swap it for about 3k. with my math, that's about 12k. subtract all the money i get from parting out the a4 and selling my blower, it'll prolly be less than 8k. but i'm trying to get an a4 for around 2-3k and then i'll be very happy :D

They also sell a universal kit that would be very useful for a DIY. I considered it.

Oh, and Jay, I originally put the thread in Club B5, but then I went to find it later and couldn't until I checked the garage. My mistake for that if I put it under the garage not knowing, but it was intended for CB5.

on scaudi.com.. 4rings blew his 2.8 a4 at 12psi on the track with a 2.6" pulley i blv?...that was with stock compression... i believe on the 2.8 v6, we have the same rods as the s4 (which can handle a shit load of hp)...but the heads if anything are not forged enough.

as for a the tip tranny, no one has had any failure (as far im as aware of) with the g2 supercharger. it could probably sustain the power of a turbo as well.

the rear mounted turbo would obv have to be routed to the intake manifold...if you could have it run through the MAF...then a FMIC..and then have it connect straight to the intake manifold used for the PES g2, then i think it would be very possible..

i've always wondered about this rear mounted turbo for a w8..that would be a nice little project..

Yea, ive followed 4rings for a while. yes, our conn rods are good, but the pistons suck. He blew a hole right through one by the wristpin. Also remember that he had 12psi of INTERCOOLED air. I would NEVER go above 7 or 8 without intercooling.
The heads are actually the best part of the motor. we have rs4's big port heads, and it's a popular swap for the 2.7 guys to use our heads.
Also, you'd probably want ot rear-mount the maf as fell, they don't like boost flowing through them, AFAIK they work better before the turbo. Personally i'd rather use the stock intake manifold because it's got variable intake runners which should give you both more low end torque and more high end power than the shitty g2 manifold. PES didn't take into consideration the flow characteristics of the manifold when they made the g2, they just designed one that would fit.

Oh, and as for blowing the tip tranny- i've done it. the thing ate itself to pieces internally. i belive they are only rated for 250 ft-lbs of torque at the crank, besides the fact that it's so unresponsive it makes the car FEEL slower than an NA v6 with MT

:wrench:

Just out of curiosity, is the supercharger kit a push-through or pull-through design, i.e. is the throttle downstream or upstream from the supercharger? Pull-through is more efficient and doesn't need an intercooler, since the low-pressure vacuum when the throttle is closed will absorb heat from the supercharger and keep it cool.

#29 ·
chill the f out guys.
such drama on PW...
and deus to answer your question, the g2 is a pull through, but it still gets F'ING HOT. like burn your hand hot, after a while on the highway. i'm experimenting with intake manifold spacers from 034, but i doubt it'd help more than 1 or 2 degrees c. on another note... this guy 4rings we were talking about has a g1 which is push through. either way at boost levels above 8psi i would run an intercooler. just seems stupid not to.

have you considered going with the "s4 version" of this with those units instead? i would think that would work out a lot better, and possibly cheaper, as you can easily snag those parts from a junkyard.

hell, after you unbolt the head, and cut the exhaust right before the car, you should be able to just lift that entire assembly out without too much extra work at a salvage yard.

oh, and cut whatever needed cables.
btw, also if you go the route of better flowing heads with this mod (the twin turbo s4 parts route) look for rusted over heads. they can be cleaned up frighteningly well, and you can bargain to get them at a crazy low price. ;)

#35 ·
sipes you just confuzzled the crap outa me. the s4 version of what parts?
and also, i'll be keeping the 2.8 heads. they flow BETTER than 2.7 heads being as they're big port. it's atually an upgrade for the 2.7 guys to use our heads.

ahh my head spins with ideas, it's never good.

what i was saying is that the s4 engine is almost identical to the ATQ engine (ours) and the heads WILL bolt up. the only differences are likely the port sizes, possibly the valves, and the boltings for the exhaust manifolds are different. that was how vw kept people from slapping turbos on our atq passats is the s4 exhaust manifolds bolt to the heads differently.

so that said, take the heads, manifolds and all from an s4 and you're set!

Why not just install a small centrifuge in the engine bay? You could keep the stock intake and not have turbo lag that way (and with an intake as long as the car, you WILL have turbo lag).
i do have to say, that would be a good idea!
if you did the centrifuge unit not only would you NOT have to relocate the power steering pump, but it could fit right where the stock airbox goes! just go ahead and stick a "cone" filter on the end of the housing and run the output right to an improved/sealed version of the intake hoses and you're all set!!!

hmm....
if my car blows up, you'll know... :poke:
