I have ambient lighting, my car has a red light in each front door, and also puddle lights. I also have roof lights, footwell lights and a light strip under the wood trim in all four doors. I'm very glad I went for this option, I think puddle lights should be standard on a car of this class. Can't comment on VAGCOM, do you have lights in the doors that don't do anything? If so there is a chance you can get them enabled...

 

I'm not that familiar with UK specifications for the CC, but you should either have door warning lights at the bottom of each door or a red reflector, depending on trim. I believe the ambient lighting package adds these.

In the US, we get the ambient items in the cabin, but no door warning lights.
