3-blink Audi/T-reg turn signal retrofit?

My buddy has a new A4 and the blinkers will flash 3 times if he depresses the turn signal stalk just for 1/2 second or so. I borrowed a Touareg the other day and it did the same thing.

Has anybody done any research on retrofitting or replicating this on the B5/B5.5?

That would be cool. I used to have those in my MB and I must admit that I kinda miss it...

hhhmmmm... this would be a very cool mod.
It's just a simple trigger pulse to a 3 second timer relay. Shouldn't be too hard to replicate. give me some time (I'm quite busy with work right now), and I'll give it a shot. If I get it to work, I'll post the parts list and wiring diagram.

If anybody can post an electrical diagram of the B5/B5.5 turn signal circuit, or post a link to one then I can take a shot at this too. JimmyDee is right - should only take a timer relay, or perhaps two depending on how the circuit is configured.

Would this be in the Bentley manual?

Hi guys,

1.8Tab, thanks for the link.

The page labeled "Exterior Lamps Circuit" holds the key. However, it's not entirely clear. Specifically, the Emergency Flasher Switch does the "blinking" for emergency flashers as well as turn signals, but the schematic doesn't show how that switch "knows" when you've engaged your turn signals. I'm guessing that the power it supplies to the Turn Signal Switch turns on and off ("blinks") which means you can't use it to supply power to a timer relay (relay will reset itself every time the "blink" occurs).

That's okay. It just means we need to grab a constant power source (blk/grn wire) to energize the relay.

So the circuit to do this will end up being pretty simple. Two timer relays will be needed. Finding a convenient place to tap into all the wires, and a clean way to mount the relays will be as hard as it gets.

My next task will be to source a relay (there are plenty to choose from) and dig in to the wires behind the dash. It will take me a couple of weeks to get to it (business travel in the meantime) but I'll post results when I have something to share.

Stay tuned...

Your username is SOOOOOOO appropriate! J/K If I didn't have a strong mobile electronics background (or any electronics background) I'd have had no idea what you meant in your post.
Glad to see you've got it worked out.

This is a great idea!

I was wondering, would it be possible to simply obtain the Audi relay in question and replace the relay we have in the passat completely? I understand the part would not fit correctly where we have our hazard button but maybe we can somehow take out the guts and retrofit something? Sorry in advance if this is a dumb suggestion...
